According to Ms. Pham Thi Tam, Deputy Director of Ba Ria-Vung Tau Museum-Library, the upgrade aims to promptly overcome the deterioration of the museum after more than 10 years of use. This is a necessary activity to preserve and promote the value of the museum, improve facilities, and enhance the quality of services for visitors. The repair work also helps the Museum preserve documents and artifacts better and prepare to welcome delegations of leaders and tourists to work and visit Con Dao. Activities will resume normally after the repair work is completed on schedule.
During the Museum's temporary closure, visitors can still visit one of the other famous and important historical sites, the French Tiger Cages. The Ba Ria-Vung Tau Provincial Museum-Library and related units will still organize to welcome and guide visitors to this location.
Con Dao Museum is a place to preserve cultural and historical heritages, considered a "red address" in educating revolutionary struggle traditions. It preserves more than 2,000 valuable documents and artifacts about the nature and people of Con Dao from prehistoric and early historical times to the current development stage and about the history of Con Dao prison in 113 years.
Once completed and put back into operation, Con Dao Museum will have a spacious, modern appearance but still retain its solemnity and historical value, providing a better exhibition space and historical experience for visitors when the project is completed.
