In Decision No. 1577/QD-UBND of the City People's Committee on a number of tasks and solutions to implement Decision No. 95/QD-TTg of the Prime Minister on the plan to implement the Da Nang City Planning for the period 2021-2030, with a vision to 2050, the city invests in many environmental protection projects with advanced technology, reducing greenhouse gas emissions, contributing to ensuring the health of people and tourists and aiming for a net zero emission target by 2050.

Recently, the city has invested in and put into operation two modern waste transfer stations on Le Thanh Nghi Street (Hai Chau District) and Son Tra District. These projects contribute to improving environmental sanitation and urban landscape; At the same time, it reduces emissions and fuel, increases the calorific value because the garbage is partially dried, suitable for burning garbage to generate electricity later... Mr. Dang Que Hung, representative of the Joint Venture of SEEN Engineering Joint Stock Company and Saigon Transport Mechanical Corporation, said: "Through the actual operation of two garbage transfer stations on Le Thanh Nghi Street and Son Tra District, it shows that the garbage after being compressed has reduced by about 10% of the total volume due to the amount of leachate generated being collected and treated at the station. The garbage transport vehicles have low emissions due to meeting Euro 4 emission standards and saving fuel, reducing emissions into the environment during the process of transporting garbage to the station and to Khanh Son landfill. Currently, we are implementing the construction and installation of machines for the garbage transfer station in Cam Le District with superior technology and features, which will continue to reduce emissions as well as fuel consumption. In particular, the garbage transport vehicles from this station to Khanh Son landfill are subject to new emission standards. especially Euro 5”.

In Decision No. 1577/QD-UBND, the city has a policy to continue investing and completing the system of urban environmental technical infrastructure works including: garbage collection points, garbage transfer stations, garbage sorting stations, garbage treatment complexes... with advanced technology. From now until 2030, the city will strengthen measures to manage, improve and restore environmental quality; speed up the progress of environmental pollution treatment projects in urban areas and residential areas. In addition, invest in new or convert technology of domestic solid waste (garbage) treatment facilities to waste treatment technology combined with energy recovery, prioritize the application of technology with optimal efficiency in terms of environmental quality criteria; apply the circular economic model, reduce greenhouse gas emissions...

Regarding the implementation roadmap, by 2030, the city will complete the Khanh Son Solid Waste Treatment Complex with domestic solid waste (garbage) treatment plants with a total waste treatment capacity of 1,800-2,000 tons/day, ensuring the treatment of all generated waste. Along with that, investing in plants to treat hazardous waste, sludge, construction solid waste, industrial solid waste, etc. and calling for investment in urban waste recycling plants. The scale and technology of each plant will be decided by the city, based on the actual situation of the locality and in accordance with current regulations. After 2030, the city will continue to invest in the technical infrastructure of the Solid Waste Treatment Complex in the west of the city with a total area of ​​200 hectares, including functions and construction items to meet the city's waste treatment needs and the goal of moving towards a circular economy; Research and invest in a waste treatment plant with a capacity of 1,000 tons/day at an appropriate stage depending on the actual amount of waste generated.

In the immediate future, the city will invest in upgrading and renovating some items of the Khanh Son Solid Waste Treatment Complex Phase 2 (landfill No. 7) to bury waste and ash from future waste-to-energy plants. Deputy Director of the Board of Management of Priority Infrastructure Investment Projects Trieu Tran Hy said that the project started in mid-April 2025 and will be completed in the first quarter of 2026 to meet the urgent need for domestic waste treatment. Domestic wastewater is collected at the city's centralized wastewater treatment plants. Industrial wastewater and medical wastewater are collected and treated separately at the source to meet standards before being discharged into receiving sources. The wastewater drainage network in old urban areas uses a semi-separate drainage system; new urban areas use a completely separate drainage system; coastal areas completely separate wastewater or improve wastewater collection capacity to prevent wastewater from being discharged into the sea. The city continues to invest in and upgrade wastewater treatment plants to increase the total capacity of domestic wastewater treatment plants to 515,000 m3/day by 2030. The city strengthens nature conservation and biodiversity; state management of the environment, inspection and enforcement of environmental protection laws, combating environmental crimes, focusing on subjects at high risk of causing environmental pollution...
