'Shaking hands' with Xiaomi, The Gioi Di Dong wants to join the electric car race
Mobile World Group (MWG) wants to collaborate with Xiaomi in promoting IoT products, electronics, and electric vehicles in the future. On December 9th, Mr. Doan Van Hieu Em, a member of the Board of Directors of Mobile World Investment Corporation (HoSE: MWG), shared on his personal Facebook page that Mr. Lu Weibing, President of Xiaomi's Global Foreign Business, visited and worked with the company. "Both sides reviewed the results of 2024, with the target of 1.5 million smartphones achieved, set goals for 2025, and opened up new opportunities for cooperation in promoting IoT products, electronics, and electric vehicles in the future," Mr. Hieu Em wrote.
Xiaomi is a company headquartered in Beijing, China, whose main business is the production of smartphones. Currently, Xiaomi is the world's third-largest smartphone manufacturer, with shipments of 42.8 million units in Q3 2024, a 3% increase year-on-year, accounting for 14% of the market share (according to Canalys). In late March 2021, Xiaomi unexpectedly announced its intention to develop electric vehicles, with a planned launch in 2024. Billionaire Lei Jun, the founder of Xiaomi, stated that the group would invest approximately $10 billion over 10 years in electric vehicle production. Lei Jun also considered this his final startup in his life. By Q3 2024, Xiaomi reported that its electric vehicle business had exceeded expectations, with revenue from smart electric vehicles and new innovations reaching 9.7 billion yuan and a gross profit margin of 17.1%. The company delivered 39,790 Xiaomi SU7 Series vehicles during the period. As of September, Xiaomi had a sales network of up to 127 smart electric vehicle centers in 38 cities. In October, monthly deliveries exceeded 20,000 vehicles, and the technology company reached a cumulative output of 100,000 vehicles in mid-November. Lei Jun announced a new target of 120,000 Xiaomi SU7 Series electric cars sold in 2024, compared to the original plan of 76,000 vehicles. Mobile World recently attracted attention when it cooperated with VPBank to provide deposit, withdrawal and money transfer services at Mobile World and Dien May Xanh supermarkets.
