Phase 2 technical calibration flight at Long Thanh Airport

The second phase of the technical calibration flight started at 4:20 a.m. and ended at 9:20 a.m. the same day. During this flight, the selected Beechcraft B300 (OK-ANS) aircraft performed a total of 30 flights, including: 3 Orbit flights to test the horizontal coverage of the PSR/SSR radar; 4 flights following the arrival (STAR) and approach (IAP) procedures at both ends of runway 05R/23L to test the monitoring of the ADS-B system; 23 flights to test the vertical coverage.

During the flight, air traffic controllers from Ho Chi Minh Area Control Center (ACC HCM), Tan Son Nhat Approach Control (APP TSN) and Long Thanh Air Traffic Control Tower (TWR LT) closely coordinated operations, maintained safe separation and ensured continuous operations. Tan Son Nhat aviation meteorologists regularly updated weather conditions, assisted flight crews and radar stations in optimizing calibration phases.

Initial results show that the PSR/SSR/ADS-B Long Thanh system operates stably, with coverage and signal accuracy meeting the technical standards of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) and the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam. The collected data will be processed, evaluated and handed over to the Long Thanh Air Traffic Control Tower by the Air Traffic Management Engineering Company Limited (ATTECH) to serve radar display correction and integration into the VATM national monitoring network.

The implementation of the second phase of technical calibration flight marks an important step in the process of completing and synchronously evaluating the capacity of the flight operations monitoring systems at Long Thanh Airport, aiming to put the first phase of the project into commercial operation in the first half of 2026.

The calibration flight was carried out by ATTECH, a member unit of VATM, in coordination with the Southern Air Traffic Management Company, the Long Thanh Project Management Board and contractors EASAT (PSR/SSR Radar), ADB Safegate (ADS-B). The flight had the participation of international experts from the Czech Republic Air Navigation Academy, along with a team of experienced Vietnamese technicians and controllers.

Previously, on September 26, 2025, VATM organized the first phase of technical calibration flights at Long Thanh Airport.
