At the workshop "Comprehensive solutions in spinal surgery" organized by the Vietnam Spinal Surgery Association and Viet Duc Hospital on May 6, Dr. Duong Duc Hung, Director of Viet Duc Hospital, said that spinal disease is a serious health problem, affecting the quality of life, work, and daily activities of millions of people.
There are many spinal diseases, not only spinal injuries caused by work and daily activities, but also many other spinal diseases such as hunchback and scoliosis, especially in children.

According to Dr. Hung, multi-level spinal degeneration, scoliosis, and spinal stenosis not only cause prolonged pain but also have the potential for many dangerous complications if not diagnosed and treated promptly.
The Director of Viet Duc Hospital added that the hospital is always overloaded with patients undergoing surgery and treatment for spinal-related diseases. Even though patients have to wait, they still want to have surgery at the hospital.
"Synchronized techniques and solutions to treat spinal diseases are essential, because the demand is huge. This year we plan to invest in a synchronized robot system so that doctors have better tools to work.
In addition, there is a system of nerve monitors during surgery to ensure the surgery is most effective and safest," said Dr. Hung.
At the conference, many domestic and international experts updated advanced treatment trends on high-tech applications in spinal surgery.

Dr. Vidyadhara, Head of Spinal Surgery Department, Manipal Hospital, India, said that the robotic system is effective in screwing, reducing the risk of nerve damage, avoiding complications. Vietnam has a lot of experience in treating difficult spinal diseases, with the support of robots, helping to make treatment more effective.
In particular, it will help post-operative patients reduce pain, blood loss, quick recovery, fewer complications and reduce treatment costs.
Associate Professor, Dr. Dinh Ngoc Son, Head of Spinal Surgery Department, Viet Duc Hospital said that at the workshop, doctors had the opportunity to update the application trends of surgical robots, navigation systems, o-arms and neuromonitoring during surgery.
"This is a trio of cutting-edge technologies that help increase precision during surgical intervention; minimize the risk of complications; and optimize treatment and patient recovery," Associate Professor Son informed.
Within the framework of the workshop, doctors also performed surgery with this robotic system, helping doctors observe the actual process and share clinical experiences vividly and effectively.
Experts also recommend that not all spinal diseases require surgery. Many diseases develop at different stages and may only require exercise and orthopedics for recovery. Only when all conservative treatments are no longer effective should surgery be considered.
When having spinal diseases, people should go to a specialist facility for effective treatment.
