Giant tumor discovered after 3 weeks of dull abdominal pain
About 3 weeks before being admitted to the hospital, the child had experienced dull abdominal pain of unknown cause. The pain gradually increased over time, accompanied by symptoms of unusually rapid abdominal distension. Worried about the child's condition, the family took the child to Cua Dong General Hospital for examination.
Through examination and performing paraclinical tests such as abdominal ultrasound and CT scan of the uterus and ovaries, doctors discovered an extremely large right ovarian tumor, occupying almost the entire abdomen of the child.

Successful surgery, preserving reproductive function for children
After conducting an interdisciplinary consultation and consulting with central experts, the surgical team of the Department of Surgery decided to perform emergency surgery to remove the tumor while preserving the remaining reproductive organs as much as possible.
The surgery was performed safely. The tumor was completely removed and removed intact from the body. During the surgery, the doctors retained the uterus and left ovary, helping to preserve the patient's reproductive and endocrine functions. A portion of the tumor tissue was sent for pathological examination (biopsy) to determine the nature of the cells.

Ovarian germ cell tumor - a rare but dangerous disease
According to doctors, ovarian germ cell tumors are a rare type of tumor that usually occurs in adolescents and young women. This tumor arises from germ cells - cells that have the ability to develop into oocytes in the ovary.

In the early stages, the disease often develops silently, without obvious symptoms. If not detected and treated promptly, the tumor can:
- Rapid increase in size, compressing neighboring organs
- Ovarian torsion, causing necrosis and affecting fertility
- Tumor rupture, causing peritonitis, even threatening the patient's life
Doctor's advice
Doctor, Master - BSCKII. Thai Doan Cong - Deputy Director of the Hospital - Head of the Department of Surgery of Cua Dong General Hospital recommends that parents pay more attention to the reproductive health of minors; especially when children have the following abnormal signs: Prolonged abdominal pain, especially in the lower abdomen, abnormal and rapid abdominal distention, unknown cause, menstrual disorders (irregular cycles, abnormal bleeding...); fatigue, unexplained weight loss.
Taking children to a reputable medical facility for early detection and timely treatment is a key factor in preserving reproductive function and avoiding dangerous complications caused by ovarian tumors./.
