Every early morning, when the streets of Thanh Sen have just woken up, the Cultural House of Residential Group 4 Bac Ha is bustling with music. In the spacious yard, 45 old men and women in red shirts with yellow stars and white pants turn around, stretch, and breathe... After a break between exercises, the old people chat together animatedly. That is a familiar image every morning at the Thanh Sen Ward Health Club.

Mr. Tran Hau Khanh - Club Chairman said: "Established in 2000, our club initially had only a few members, now it has 45 members, meeting regularly every early morning. Not only practicing health exercises, the club also organizes many diverse activities such as: cultural activities, volleyball exchanges, visiting sick members, mobilizing donations to support difficult circumstances, keeping the neighborhood clean together... Therefore, the club becomes a "common home" - a connecting address, helping members encourage and share with each other, reducing the feeling of loneliness and emptiness of old age".

Ms. Nguyen Thi Luyen (82 years old, Club member) expressed: “In the years after retirement, I used to suffer from joint pain, often got sick, and felt that old age was boring. However, after participating in training and activities at the Club, my illnesses seemed to have completely disappeared. In particular, my spirit is always happy and comfortable, I have more friends to confide in, I have more motivation and I feel more optimistic about life.”
Along with Thanh Sen, in recent times, the movement of the elderly (NCT) living happily, healthily and usefully has been spreading strongly in many localities of Ha Tinh. Mr. Phan Ba Dau - Chairman of the Association of the Elderly in Dong Kinh commune said: "After the merger, the whole commune has 17 branches with 3,100 elderly members. Up to now, 17/17 branches have cultural and sports clubs for the elderly (6 health clubs and 11 art clubs). The clubs are maintained to operate regularly, providing a useful and healthy playground, contributing to improving the vibrant spiritual life of the elderly".

According to statistics from the Provincial Elderly Association, the whole province has established 3,745 cultural, artistic and sports clubs for the elderly (including more than 240 health clubs), with 95,112 elderly members participating. To achieve that result, the movement has received attention from Party committees and authorities of many localities. Wards and communes have actively allocated funds, and at the same time mobilized social resources to support clubs in purchasing training equipment, uniforms, arranging training grounds, creating conditions in terms of time and space for the elderly to participate. Some localities have also included criteria for the activities of Elderly Clubs in evaluating the movement to build new rural areas, build cultural life in residential areas, and civilized urban lifestyles...

In addition, the encouragement and support from children and grandchildren in each elderly family is a great motivation to help the elderly to be more enthusiastic in participating in the movement. Ms. Tran Nhu Quynh (resident of Quynh Lam residential group, Bac Hong Linh ward) shared: “To encourage the movement, to encourage parents to live healthy and happy lives, I went to each house to persuade the elderly to establish an Elderly Arts Club in the residential group. At the same time, I made each elderly lady in the club a set of Ao Dai, created a fanpage to share the performances, to encourage my mother and the elderly to be more enthusiastic…”.

In the coming time, in addition to continuing to maintain and encourage the cultural and sports movement for the elderly to go into depth, we will also focus on monitoring the timely settlement of social security regimes and policies for the elderly according to the policies of the Party and the State. At the same time, we will continue to improve the organization of the association at the grassroots level, creating conditions for the whole people to join hands in caring for the elderly. In particular, with the direction of General Secretary To Lam at the National Conference to disseminate and implement the resolutions of the Politburo (September 16, 2025), the association will continue to advise all levels and sectors to strengthen the construction of care and nursing facilities for the elderly. Thereby, helping the elderly have a stable material and spiritual life, live happily, live healthily, and live usefully."
