Binh Phuoc launches vitamin A campaign for children

BPO - In order to raise public awareness of the important role of micronutrients in children's development and prevent micronutrient deficiencies, Binh Phuoc's health sector has launched the first vitamin A supplementation and deworming campaign in 2025 for children across the province. The campaign will be carried out on June 1 and 2, contributing to improving children's ability to absorb nutrients and develop their physical strength by preventing intestinal parasitic diseases.

The campaign is being held at 11 district, town and city health centres and 111 commune, ward and township health stations across the province. About 92,777 children aged 6 to 60 months will be given vitamin A and 61,828 children aged 24 to under 60 months will be given regular deworming.

Preparations for the campaign have been thoroughly carried out. At Tan Binh Ward Health Station (Dong Xoai City), all preparations have been made, including statistical forms, reports, reception desks, waiting areas, vitamin A and deworming areas, areas for weighing children and receiving supplies and vitamin A capsules. Tan Binh Ward Health Station expects about 1,000 children in the ward to receive vitamin A. The station's medical staff is also actively organizing vitamin A for children at preschools and childcare groups in the ward.

In the first phase of 2025, Minh Lap Commune Health Station (Chon Thanh District) expects about 678 children to receive vitamin A and 418 children to be dewormed, including 134 ethnic minority children.

Communication work has also been stepped up. Tan Binh Ward Health Station has promoted the campaign of taking vitamin A and deworming on the ward's public address system, through neighborhood Zalo groups and sent notices of the drinking schedule to parents.

Dr. La Van Dau, Director of the Center for Disease Control of Binh Phuoc province, said: The campaign to take vitamin A and deworm plays an important role in the health and comprehensive development of children. The center was assigned by the Department of Health to coordinate with other units to organize communication activities on preventing and combating micronutrient deficiencies and vitamin A deficiency to the people. In addition to this campaign, the center also strengthens communication to raise people's awareness of preventing and combating malnutrition, micronutrient deficiencies and parasitic diseases in children.

Recommended measures to prevent micronutrient deficiencies include: Using a variety of foods in daily meals, choosing foods fortified with micronutrients, breastfeeding early, exclusively breastfeeding for the first 6 months and breastfeeding until 24 months of age or longer, giving children of childbearing age high doses of vitamin A twice a year, practicing food hygiene, personal hygiene, environmental hygiene to prevent worm infections, and women of childbearing age and pregnant women need to take iron/folic acid tablets or multivitamin tablets according to the instructions of health workers . At the same time, it is also necessary to propagate the risk of severe vitamin A deficiency that can damage the cornea of ​​the eye, leading to permanent blindness.
