After the flood, many dragon fruit gardens in Ham Thuan Nam district suffered significant damage. Ham Thuan Nam district has established an inspection team to verify the extent of damage caused by natural disasters in the communes and towns of the district.
In order to verify the actual area of damage, the rate of damage and other information and data in order to promptly synthesize and report to the Provincial People's Committee and the Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Control and Search and Rescue (PCTT&TKCN) of Binh Thuan province to consider supporting households, on September 28, a working group of the People's Committee of Ham Thuan Nam district went to the field to inspect and verify the extent of damage caused by natural disasters in August and September 2024 in the district.

In Phu Khanh village, Ham My commune, the delegation visited the people and coordinated with the village to determine the extent of the damage. Previously, according to statistics from Ham My commune People's Committee, Phu Khanh village was flooded with about 30 households. Of which, 18 households were deeply flooded, with about 100 hectares of dragon fruit and crops flooded.
In Phu Son village, Ham My commune, the most severe damage was to dragon fruit trees and houses during the flood. According to the report of Ham My commune People's Committee, about 200 households were flooded, of which 30 households were deeply flooded, with about 300 hectares of dragon fruit and crops flooded.
According to Nguoi Dua Tin reporters, officials have inspected and counted the damage to the people. However, the people have not received any support and are looking forward to the local government quickly providing more funding to restore production.
Speaking to reporters on September 29, Mr. Vo Van Hai (residing in Phu Son village, Ham My commune) said: "My dragon fruit trees have about 350 damaged pillars. I am waiting for the commune to count the damage and provide additional funding so that I can restore dragon fruit production."
Dragon fruit has not been revived because people are facing difficulties.
Talking about the damage assessment in the recent flood, Mr. Le Minh Hoang, Head of Phu Son village, Ham My commune informed the reporter that the village has now gone through a review, there are some households that suffered 100% damage and are unlikely to recover.
The village also petitioned the higher authorities to resolve the issue soon, so that people could have funds to restore production. Currently, the villagers are also hoping for early support from the commune, so that they can have funds to restore dragon fruit production.
Speaking to reporters, Mr. Vo Thanh Truc, Head of Phu Khanh village, Ham My commune, said that after the flood, superiors directed the villages to review and count the damage to the people.
"Until now, it is still unknown when people will receive compensation support, but the responsibility is still to count the damage for the people. The district said that there will be a level of support according to regulations, but it must be carefully reviewed to prepare a report to submit to the council to consider the level of damage of each garden, to support according to regulations," said Mr. Vo Thanh Truc, Head of Phu Khanh village.

Informing reporters, Mr. Tieu Van The, an expert from the Department of Agriculture of Ham Thuan Nam district, said that based on the report of Ham My commune, the district's Disaster Prevention and Control Committee established a team to inspect and verify that on August 27 and 28, there was a phenomenon of flooding over a large area, flooding houses and dragon fruit of households.
On that basis, the delegation will guide local and communal authorities to consolidate complete and accurate records, specifically on the subjects and extent of damage. After that, it will advise the District People's Committee to submit to Binh Thuan province to promptly support the people.

Earlier on the morning of August 28, reporters recorded the amount of water surrounding houses and hundreds of hectares of dragon fruit and crops of people in Phu Son village, Ham My commune.
Statistics and initial damage assessment show that 230 houses are currently flooded (all in Phu Son and Phu Khanh villages, Ham My commune), of which 48 houses were deeply flooded and had to evacuate people and property. One house was damaged and had its roof blown off (in Tan Lap commune).
About 420 hectares of dragon fruit and crops were flooded; of which, Ham My commune was flooded about 400 hectares; Ham Cuong commune about 20 hectares. Ham Kiem and Tan Lap communes were also flooded in some areas, but the damage was minimal.
