Ministry of Education and Training issues "urgent" order to 19 northern provinces to respond to floods

(Dan Tri) - Faced with the complicated flood situation, the Ministry of Education and Training requested 19 local departments to proactively respond and ensure the safety of students, teachers and school facilities.

On May 26, Minister of Education and Training Nguyen Kim Son issued Official Dispatch No. 640/CD-BGDDT to the Directors of the Departments of Education and Training of 19 northern provinces and cities, requesting proactive response and ensuring safety for students, teachers and school facilities.

Departments of Education and Training include: Lao Cai, Yen Bai, Tuyen Quang, Ha Giang, Cao Bang, Bac Kan, Thai Nguyen, Lang Son, Quang Ninh, Bac Giang, Phu Tho, Vinh Phuc, Hoa Binh, Son La, Lai Chau, Dien Bien, Thanh Hoa, Nghe An, Hanoi .

The dispatch stated that, according to the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, during the night of May 22 to the morning of May 23, many areas in Lao Cai, Yen Bai, Ha Giang, Tuyen Quang, and Bac Kan recorded heavy rainfall, some places exceeding 100mm, locally Lam Binh district (Tuyen Quang) had rainfall up to 256mm.

Heavy rain is forecast to continue in the coming days with a high risk of flash floods, landslides and inundation.

Faced with the above situation, the Ministry of Education and Training requires the Departments of Education and Training in the affected areas to strictly implement a number of contents.

Firstly, closely monitor the development of floods and rains; maintain regular contact with authorities and local rescue forces to promptly respond in case of incidents.

Second, make plans to move files, documents, machinery, equipment, tables and chairs to a safe place to avoid damage. Absolutely do not organize summer activities, especially in places at risk of landslides, flash floods, or inundation.

Third, urgently clean and sanitize schools/classrooms immediately after the flood ends, ensuring safety and cleanliness to prepare for the 10th grade entrance exam and the 2025 high school graduation exam.

Finally, the Ministry of Education and Training requested the local education sector to synthesize the damage, develop a remediation plan, promptly report to the provincial People's Committee for remediation, and at the same time report to the Ministry of Education and Training.
