At a regular press conference on the afternoon of July 18, responding to a request from the press to provide more information related to the six Vietnamese people, including four Vietnamese citizens, found dead at a hotel in Bangkok on July 15, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Pham Thu Hang said that immediately after receiving information about the incident, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh sent a telegram directing the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to closely coordinate with Thailand to investigate.
According to spokesperson Pham Thu Hang, implementing the Prime Minister's direction, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has provided relevant information to the Ministry of Public Security to carry out professional measures.
The Vietnamese Embassy in Bangkok has been working closely with Thai authorities to update the situation, and has requested the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Thai Police to provide new developments and facilitate citizen protection work.
"The Embassy is in constant contact with Thai authorities to support and guide the victims' families through funeral procedures when permitted. We once again send our deepest condolences to the victims and hope that their families will overcome this painful moment," Ms. Hang informed.
Previously, on July 17, answering a reporter's question regarding the death of 6 people at a hotel in Bangkok (Thailand), Foreign Ministry spokesperson Pham Thu Hang said that according to the latest information from the Vietnamese Embassy in Thailand, local authorities determined that 4 people were Vietnamese citizens.
This information matches the images of the victims' 6 passports previously published by Thai media.
The discovery of six Vietnamese dead at a luxury hotel in Bangkok on July 15 has received great attention from the media, public opinion and Thai authorities. Thai Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin himself visited the scene the night the bodies were discovered.
He also spoke with Vietnamese Ambassador to Thailand Pham Viet Hung and asked Thai authorities to urgently investigate to avoid affecting the tourism industry.
According to information from Thai police and forensics, traces of cyanide have been found at the scene and in the victims. Further tests are still pending for official confirmation.
Thai police initially believed that the tragedy may have stemmed from a debt between the victims, but did not elaborate on the relationship. Thai media has also been reporting on the incident continuously over the past few days.
