On the morning of October 2, the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee organized the announcement of the book series "History of Saigon - Ho Chi Minh City."
The book set includes 5 volumes and 1 abridged book compiled under the direction of the City Party Committee and People's Committee; published by the National Political Publishing House Truth.
In 2012, the Ho Chi Minh City Historical Science Association proposed that the Standing Committee of the City Party Committee compile the book series "History of Ho Chi Minh City" with Professor-Doctor Vo Van Sen as the project manager (later adding Associate Professor-Doctor Phan Xuan Bien as co-director).
The book series is compiled, synthesizing all new, modern and updated research results on Saigon - Ho Chi Minh City; reflecting new awareness of history in the current boundaries of the City with a rich history (through archaeological discoveries on the land of ancient Saigon) spanning from prehistoric, early historical to ancient and contemporary times.
The completed work includes 6 volumes: Volume 1: The land of Saigon - Ho Chi Minh City from the beginning to the 16th century ; Volume 2: Saigon - Gia Dinh from the 17th century to the mid-19th century; Volume 3: Saigon - Cho Lon - Gia Dinh from 1859 to 1945 ; Volume 4: Saigon - Gia Dinh from 1945 to 1975 ; Volume 5: Ho Chi Minh City from 1975 to 2015 ; Abridged Volume: History of Saigon - Ho Chi Minh City.
Professor-Doctor Vo Van Sen, Chairman of the City Historical Science Association, said that with a modern approach, rich materials, reflecting the latest results and achievements of Vietnamese historical science, "History of Saigon - Ho Chi Minh City" is presented in a general historical style with a political style combining historical description, analysis and explanation, with illustrative appendices.
The project uses sources of documents, books, and papers in the national archives of the Party and State, archives, libraries, archaeological documents, museums, and references to memoirs and local history sources of the City.
According to Professor-Doctor Vo Van Sen, each volume has an introduction, conclusion, list of references and an appendix of maps, diagrams, images and characters.
The completed work has a volume of more than 4,500 pages including 27 historical chapters and 5 appendices. The work addresses many important scientific contents, many issues are raised and clarified.
Mr. Duong Anh Duc, Head of the Propaganda and Mass Mobilization Department of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee, shared that this is the achievement of more than 80 scientists and collaborators in the historical science sector of the City and the whole country.
The Standing Committee of the City Party Committee hopes that the book series will be a valuable document serving the study and research of the City, contributing to fostering revolutionary traditions, consolidating firm belief in the revolutionary cause, the path to Socialism that the Party, Uncle Ho and our people have chosen./.
