In the letter, Minister of Health Dao Hong Lan expressed her joy and pride when the team of doctors, nurses, and technicians with high professional capacity and much experience from Children's Hospital 1 and Tu Du Hospital in Ho Chi Minh City closely coordinated and successfully performed the 9th fetal heart intervention.
Notably, this time the pregnant woman is a Singaporean who is 25 weeks pregnant, the fetus weighs less than 600g but has a rare congenital defect. The pregnant woman was referred to Vietnam for intervention by Singaporean medical experts.

According to the Minister, fetal cardiac intervention is a new and complex technique that not only requires extensive professional knowledge and sophisticated techniques, but also places strict requirements on multidisciplinary coordination, professional ethics and courage in making life-or-death decisions for two lives: mother and child.
Currently, this technique has only been successfully performed in a few countries in the world with specialized and developed medical systems. Notably, this case is a citizen from Singapore, a country with a developed medical system in the region.
“The fact that Vietnamese doctors have approached, mastered and successfully applied this technique is clear evidence of the increasingly strong endogenous capacity of the country's medicine.
This is not only a technical and professional medical achievement but also a success that touches profound human values, when the fragile buds of life on the border of survival have been held by the hands, minds, passion and intelligence of doctors like gentle mothers," the Minister wrote in the letter.
This achievement not only brings hope to thousands of pregnant women and their families, but also opens up a new direction in diagnosing and treating complex diseases right from the fetal period. This is an important step forward for the Vietnamese medical industry to deeply integrate with world medicine.
Minister Lan praised and appreciated the efforts, breakthroughs, and technical expertise development of the leaders, doctors, technicians, nurses, and staff of the two hospitals.
The Minister also believes that medical staff will continue to promote the successful steps they have achieved, constantly study and research, improve their professional qualifications and skills; promote medical ethics and the good qualities of Vietnamese doctors.
