The Ministry of Education and Training held a 2-day conference of Department of Education and Training Directors on July 28-29 to summarize the 2024-2025 school year, discuss existing issues, and develop directions for the new school year.

Speaking at the conference, Minister Nguyen Kim Son said that the education sector is facing many tasks, great expectations, and great entrustments. The country is facing a breakthrough, so it cannot help but develop education and training. That also poses great challenges for those in education management.

“The challenge is not just to deal with difficulties and poverty, but to deal with the challenge of development. Our mission is so great that if we cannot develop it, it is a great mistake,” he told the Directors of the Department of Education and Training.

Evaluating the 2024-2025 school year, Minister Nguyen Kim Son said: "The industry has done many big and difficult things."

That is the completion of the organization of the High School Graduation Exam according to the new General Education Program with many pressures, in a new context.

The Ministry of Education and Training applies Circular 29 on the management of extra teaching and learning at all levels. “Adjusting extra teaching and learning means adjusting the way of thinking about general education. If that cannot be done, then educational reform will still have its limits. And this cannot be done half-heartedly, it must be done regularly,” said the Minister.

When operating the two-level government apparatus, the personnel of the Departments of Education and Training have been re-arranged. The Minister requested that at this time, the new school year is about to begin, it is necessary to do a good job of "change management". If this is not done well, it will greatly affect the work being carried out by the education sector.

“We do education as a model for the whole society. Therefore, in this context, we need to unite, share, and be sincere and honest with each other,” the Minister emphasized.

Affirming that the keyword for the new school year 2025-2026 is to “implement” many major policies on education and training, the Minister noted that during the implementation process, localities should try to limit confusion, and if there are any problems, they must work together to clear them up. “I am sure that this will be a busy but positive year with lots of joy,” the Minister expressed.

Strengthening STEM Education, Focusing on Equity

According to the Minister, there are many things to implement in the new school year. Along with the Law on Teachers that has been passed, there is the Law amending and supplementing a number of articles of the Law on Education, the amended Law on Higher Education, the amended Law on Vocational Education, localities need to have a deep understanding of institutional issues to operate when implementing in practice.

Along with that is the implementation of the first cycle assessment of the 2018 General Education Program. In which, it emphasizes the assessment and in-depth implementation of quality, testing and evaluation measures, teaching staff, implementing 2-session teaching/day, paying attention to and developing subjects that develop comprehensive capacity and qualities for students...

In the coming school year, the industry will also strongly deploy AI applications and strengthen STEM education. “Strengthening STEM education needs to be understood correctly and fully. It is not about classrooms or robots, but a method, using knowledge to solve problems in learning and life. We must have that kind of thinking and education, otherwise it will be a waste of money and meaningless. It is about giving students the opportunity to truly learn and must persevere in that direction,” said the Minister.

Regarding general education, the head of the education sector noted that localities should implement fairness in education. He emphasized that focusing investment on a number of public schools with the desire for high quality and many awards, but this can also create unfairness in education.
