These citizens were previously detained in Kratie province, Cambodia for their involvement in online fraud activities during a large-scale crackdown by the neighboring country's authorities.

The two sides signed the minutes of handover of 85 Vietnamese citizens.
According to initial information, the group of 85 people detained came from 22 provinces and cities across the country, of which Dong Nai province alone had 16 citizens. They were discovered operating in “online fraud centers”, which were disguised as companies or fake casinos. These people were lured abroad with attractive promises of “easy work, high salary”, but in reality were forced into illegal activities.

Immediately after being received, all citizens were given health checks, while the authorities verified their identities, classified the subjects, and took steps to handle them according to Vietnamese law.

The incident once again raises the alarm about the situation of Vietnamese citizens being tricked into working abroad illegally. Fraudulent organizations are increasingly sophisticated, taking advantage of social networks and online recruitment channels to lure people, especially young people in rural areas, with invitations for “easy work, high salary”, while in fact they are leading them into transnational criminal networks.

Dong Nai Provincial People's Committee has directed relevant agencies to expand the investigation and clarify the responsibilities of individuals and organizations involved in organizing and brokering illegal exits and putting workers into the "trap" of working abroad. They will be strictly punished, with no forbidden areas.
