Cambodia denies information about reducing athletes attending SEA Games 33 in Thailand
According to the latest information, after the news that Mr. Chaiyaphak Siriwat, President of the SEA Games Council, requested Cambodia to reduce the number of athletes participating in the 33rd SEA Games to no more than 200 people, due to concerns that the host country Thailand could not ensure adequate security. Secretary General of the Cambodian Olympic Committee, Vath Chamroeun, immediately denied this information when answering an interview with the local press on the same day (August 22).
Mr. Vath Chamroeun, Secretary General of the Cambodian Olympic Committee, denied the information that the country's sports sector only sent 57 athletes to the 33rd SEA Games.

"We don't know. They just posted the information. We haven't confirmed the exact number of athletes participating. We are still waiting for the decision of the Cambodian government . This is unofficial information. We haven't announced the number of athletes participating," said Vath Chamroeun, quoted by the Phnom Penh Post .
Previously, Thai newspapers such as Kaosod (English version), Siamsport and Thairath simultaneously reported that at a meeting with the 33rd SEA Games Organizing Committee and heads of delegations from Southeast Asian countries on August 20, Cambodian sports confirmed their participation in the 33rd SEA Games with 600 athletes and about 100 officials. This number is down from the previous total of more than 1,600 people.
Earlier, the Thai press also published information about Cambodian sports participating in the 33rd SEA Games with only 57 athletes.
Therefore, Mr. Vath Chamroeun once again expressed his dissatisfaction with the Thai press for always publishing inaccurate information. Mr. Chamroeun called on Cambodian people and sports fans to wait for written documents or official announcements.
Cambodia successfully organized the 32nd SEA Games at home.

Meanwhile, the Thai press recently reported that Mr. Chaiyaphak Siriwat, Chairman of the SEA Games Council, also sent a letter to the Director General of the Cambodian Sports Administration. The request was that the country should reduce the number of athletes to no more than 200 people so that the host country can ensure comprehensive security.
However, as Mr. Vath Chamroeun, Secretary General of the Cambodian Olympic Committee, has just confirmed, there has not been any such announcement from the SEA Games Council.
According to Khmer Times , the Cambodian Olympic Committee is expected to have internal discussions before confirming the scale of Cambodian sports participating in the 33rd SEA Games with how many athletes.
The deadline for sports delegations to submit their list of athletes to participate in the 33rd SEA Games is September 15, at which time we will know more clearly about the actual number of athletes Cambodia will send, according to Siamsport .
