Business owners with insurance debt should be banned from leaving the country

(Baothanhhoa.vn) - Many employers have owed their employees huge amounts of insurance for a long time. The delay and ignorance of the regulations is due to the lack of strong enough measures.

According to statistics, Thanh Hoa currently has 3,368 units that are 3 months or more late in paying insurance, with a total amount of 527.643 billion VND. As of the end of March 2025, the amount of money employers have delayed in paying insurance in the whole province is more than 1,000 billion VND. Of which, social insurance is more than 571 billion VND, health insurance is 221.97 billion VND, unemployment insurance is 32.64 billion VND, and occupational accident and disease insurance is 8.29 billion VND. The interest alone due to late payment has amounted to 144.02 billion VND.

Not only are businesses slow in paying insurance for their employees, in the first quarter of 2025, in Thanh Hoa, there were 19 additional administrative units that were 3 months or more late in paying insurance with a total debt of 2.51 billion VND.

Recently, many business owners with tax arrears have been banned from leaving the country by the tax department in coordination with the police.

Proposing a solution to collect outstanding insurance premiums, Director of Social Insurance Region VI (Thanh Hoa) Nguyen Khac Tuan stated: “We need to be strong, like the way the tax sector is applying, which is banning business owners with long-term debts from leaving the country, especially FDI enterprises. Only then can we ensure the rights of workers as well as solve the current difficulties for the insurance industry.”

Regarding money, the interests of workers must also be respected, with appropriate and legitimate protection measures such as protecting national interests. Not paying taxes affects the national budget, and not paying insurance will affect the lives and future of workers, and the law is disregarded.

After all, not paying social insurance for workers is also an attack on national interests. Because once workers are guaranteed their rights, they will be more enthusiastic about working, the quality of work will improve, labor productivity will increase, the tax budget will have more abundant revenue and vice versa. Therefore, protecting workers' rights is protecting national interests, strong measures including banning exit for employers who violate insurance policies need to be studied and applied.
