Focused investment promotion
Based on research on potential, market, trends and investment partners, Can Tho Investment - Trade Promotion and Exhibition Fair Center (Center) builds an investment promotion plan in the direction of being practical, effective, targeted, focused and key; proactively selecting strategic investors with financial potential, suitable for the development orientation of the City to contact and call for investment.
Accordingly, investment promotion activities are proactively implemented by the Center with many flexible methods, combining direct and online, applying digital technology and many different connection channels to promote and introduce the potential, opportunities, and investment policies of Can Tho to domestic and foreign partners and investors quickly and effectively.
Regarding foreign investment promotion, in 2024, the Center participated in receiving and working with diplomatic delegations and domestic and foreign investors who came to learn about the investment and business environment in Can Tho as well as cooperation orientations in the coming time. Among them, there was a delegation from the state of Sachsen-Anhalt (Germany); a delegation from the Kyushu Bureau of Economy, Trade and Industry with Japanese enterprises; a delegation from the Governor of Niigata Province, a delegation from Fukuoka City (Japan); AeonMall Vietnam Co., Ltd.; Consulate General of India in Ho Chi Minh City; Consulate General of the People's Republic of China in Ho Chi Minh City, etc.
In parallel with welcoming investor delegations, Can Tho City has also increased the organization of delegations to promote investment and trade cooperation in potential foreign markets. Specifically, the Center has chaired and coordinated with relevant departments and branches to organize investment and trade promotion delegations in the UK and Switzerland, in order to create conditions for Can Tho enterprises to access the market, promote investment and trade, strengthen trade connections, support enterprises exporting rice, seafood, and processed agricultural products; and attend the Vietnam - Switzerland Economic Forum.
In addition, the Center has coordinated with the Management Board of Can Tho Export Processing and Industrial Zones to organize a working group to promote investment and trade in Germany and the Netherlands to call for cooperation, investment in port and logistics services and research on the operation methods of some economic models, industries and services in Germany, the Netherlands, etc.
The Center also focuses on improving the effectiveness of on-site investment promotion activities through supporting, accompanying, and facilitating investment, production, and business activities of enterprises in the area.
Recently, on December 13, the Center coordinated with the Department of Planning and Investment and other departments and agencies to organize a Dialogue between the government and businesses in Can Tho City, chaired by the leaders of the City People's Committee to listen to proposals and recommendations from businesses, thereby promptly removing difficulties and obstacles, creating favorable conditions for businesses to operate effectively, contributing to the socio-economic development of the locality.
Investment promotion activities have brought positive results. Through this, the City has promoted and introduced its potential to investors, creating favorable conditions for investors to find information and decide to invest locally.

Strengthening trade connections
In addition to investment promotion, the Center has focused on implementing trade promotion activities in many diverse and flexible forms to effectively support businesses and industries in connecting domestic market supply and demand; promoting existing markets, while exploiting and expanding to find new markets through organizing and participating in fairs, exhibitions, forums, and trade promotion events in Can Tho and other provinces and cities nationwide.
Specifically, the Center has chaired and coordinated with the Can Tho City Business Association, Ho Chi Minh City Business Association, Thu Duc City Trade and Investment Promotion Center, Thu Duc City Business Association and Thanh Hoa Province Business Association to organize the program "Investment - Trade Promotion Conference in Can Tho City" in August 2024.
The event was attended by 350 delegates including representatives of the People's Committee, departments, branches, associations and 220 investors, businesses, and distributors looking for partners and expanding the market of all 3 localities.
At the event, there were about 70 booths displaying typical products and products of enterprises of the 3 localities. Investment promotion centers, business associations, enterprises and investors signed 7 memorandums of understanding. The conference contributed to strengthening connection activities, seeking investment cooperation opportunities in many fields between Can Tho City, Thu Duc City (HCMC) and Thanh Hoa Province; combined with introducing and promoting the potential, advantages and development orientation of the 3 localities.
In addition, the Center has coordinated with the Military Command of Can Tho City and the People's Committees of Phong Dien and O Mon districts to organize 2 "Bringing Vietnamese goods to the countryside" fairs, with a scale of 47 booths of 27 enterprises; coordinated with Vincom Plaza Hung Vuong and Vincom Plaza Xuan Khanh to organize the program "Honoring Vietnamese products"...
The Center also coordinated with the Trade Promotion Agency (Ministry of Industry and Trade) to organize the Conference on Trade Promotion and Import-Export Development in the Mekong Delta (MD); coordinated with the US Consulate General in Ho Chi Minh City to organize the Workshop on Expanding Business in the US to promote economic, trade and investment relations between the US market and Can Tho City in particular and the MD in general; coordinated with the An Giang Provincial Center for Trade and Investment Promotion to organize the Mekong Connect Forum in 2024.
In 2024, the Center supported 40 businesses to participate in the joint booth of Can Tho City at fairs in provinces and cities, such as: Da Lat Trade - Tourism - Cuisine Promotion Fair; East-West Economic Corridor - Da Nang International Trade, Tourism and Investment Fair; Regional Specialties Fair in Hanoi; Regional Specialties Fair and Typical Products of Provinces and Cities in the Southeast - Tay Ninh region... At these fairs, the joint booth of Can Tho City received the attention of many partners and customers, contributing to promoting the expansion of domestic consumption channels.
In particular, the Vietnam International Agricultural Fair 2024 organized by the Center (from November 1 to November 5, 2024) attracted nearly 400 booths of 100 units and enterprises nationwide; more than 50,000 visitors and transactions. Sales at the fair reached about 50 billion VND and about 80 contracts were signed, contributing to supporting businesses to promote business and connect trade.
Notably, at the opening ceremony of the Fair, a memorandum of understanding on trade and investment promotion cooperation was signed between three localities: Can Tho, An Giang and Dong Thap, in the spirit of implementing the socio-economic development cooperation agreement between Ho Chi Minh City and the provinces and cities in the Mekong Delta. This memorandum of understanding is the basis for the three centers for trade and investment promotion of Can Tho, An Giang and Dong Thap to agree to carry out cooperation activities, support each other to promote strengths and potentials; contributing to promoting the socio-economic development of the three localities.
The cooperation content focuses on accompanying, chairing, coordinating and participating in trade promotion and investment promotion activities in the program of linking and cooperating to develop the socio-economic region of the Mekong Delta; taking advantage of support from the Central Government's resources to create a common mark of the 3 localities when participating in trade and investment promotion events at home and abroad. From there, calling for connections with localities in the Mekong Delta region to create regional links in trade and export promotion to optimize resources and promote socio-economic development.
In addition to direct trade connection activities, the Center also connects trade through supporting businesses in applying digital platforms, especially large, reputable platforms that have the effect of connecting markets and partners.
Through trade promotion and trade connection activities, the Center has effectively supported businesses in consuming products, expanding markets, finding partners, actively contributing to the recovery and economic growth of the City; at the same time, helping businesses develop the domestic market and boost exports.
