Tourist vehicles passing through Lim 1 bridge

Previously, Lim 1 Bridge was small, narrow, and weak, only enough for one car to pass at a time, causing frequent traffic congestion and jams. There were even traffic accidents, partly due to inadequate traffic infrastructure.

Due to this urgent need, the authorities have implemented a project to expand Lim 1 Bridge from its old 4.5m wide structure to 14m wide, with two lanes, ensuring technical standards and traffic safety. However, during the construction process, many difficulties arose, directly affecting the lives of people and traffic.

Previously, the temporary road under Lim 1 bridge collapsed due to heavy trucks causing damage to the drainage structure. The incident caused many cars and motorbikes going to Minh Mang, Tuan, Binh Dien, A Luoi to be congested for a long time, causing frustration for residents and drivers. Dust and noise from the construction site also significantly affected the daily life and business activities of households along the route.

According to the plan, the expansion of Lim 1 Bridge is expected to be completed before the 2025 rainy season. However, many people are still skeptical because of unfavorable weather and prolonged rain and floods, making it difficult to ensure progress. However, up to now, after a period of construction efforts, the main structure of Lim 1 Bridge has been completed, allowing temporary access to serve the immediate travel needs of the people.

On the morning of November 18, the traffic of motorbikes and cars across the bridge was smooth, no longer congested like before. Local people expressed their excitement that travel was more convenient. Mr. Nguyen Van Phung, living on Minh Mang Street, shared: "During the construction period, the road across the foot of the bridge was blocked, forcing people to take a detour, which was quite inconvenient. Now the bridge is open, travel is easier. The new bridge is high and wide, so it is more secure when heavy rain causes flooding."

However, the bridge surface and the approach roads at both ends have not been completely paved; auxiliary items such as lighting and drainage systems are still being completed. To ensure traffic safety during the temporary operation phase, the authorities need to synchronously deploy solutions such as arranging load limit signs, strictly controlling heavy trucks, reasonably dividing traffic to avoid traffic conflicts, adding signs, speed bumps, warnings about slippery temporary road surfaces, and enhancing the reflective paint system to ensure safety at night.

In addition, it is necessary to speed up the progress of asphalt paving, lighting and drainage system completion to ensure the longevity of the project. In the initial stage of operation, technical staff need to regularly check the bridge deck, load-bearing points, and expansion joints to promptly handle any problems.

The opening of Lim 1 Bridge not only helps relieve traffic pressure on National Highway 49 but also creates an important driving force in completing the traffic infrastructure in the southwest of Hue City. When the remaining items are completed synchronously, Lim 1 Bridge will become a modern and safe traffic connection point, well meeting the socio -economic development needs of the locality.

Lim 1 Bridge expansion is one of the packages of the project to ensure traffic safety on National Highway 49 from Thuan An to Binh Dien, which has been implemented since July this year and has now been opened to traffic. The bridge has a load capacity of 13 tons, constructed by Thang Long 118 Construction and Trade Joint Stock Company. Lim 1 Bridge expansion is an urgent requirement to increase load capacity and safety, especially during the current stormy season.
