Song Lo Bridge is seriously degraded, Ministry of Construction requests construction quality inspection

(Chinhphu.vn) - The Ministry of Construction has just sent a document to the People's Committee of Phu Tho province regarding the review and inspection of the quality of the Song Lo bridge project in Phu Tho province.

According to the Ministry of Construction , there has been some information recently reflecting on the serious deterioration of the quality of some of the Song Lo bridge piers. Specifically, some concrete piers have exposed load-bearing steel, affecting the safety of the project.

Song Lo bridge pier is seriously degraded

Therefore, the Ministry of Construction requested the People's Committee of Phu Tho province to assign the Department of Construction to inspect the current status of the project; at the same time, direct and request the unit managing, exploiting and using Song Lo bridge and relevant agencies to organize construction quality inspection.

In addition, it is necessary to take necessary measures such as limiting the use of the construction, zoning off dangerous areas or immediately repairing damage in case there is a risk of affecting the safety of use and operation of the construction.

The Provincial People's Committee also needs to develop and adjust traffic plans (if necessary) in accordance with reality to ensure safety for people and vehicles traveling through this area, and report the implementation results to the Ministry of Construction before November 15.

The Ministry of Construction assigned the State Appraisal Department of Construction Quality to monitor, guide and coordinate with the Department of Construction in organizing inspection and assessment of the quality and load-bearing capacity of Song Lo Bridge.

The Vietnam Road Administration is responsible for guiding and coordinating with relevant agencies under the People's Committee of Phu Tho province in controlling vehicles passing through Song Lo bridge, organizing traffic flow and guiding people and vehicles to cross the two ends of the bridge.

Previously, the People's Committee of Phu Tho province requested the Department of Construction to preside over and coordinate with relevant departments, branches and units to urgently review and assess the overall extent of damage to the project; at the same time, clarify the cause and propose feasible solutions to overcome the incident, ensuring safety for the project and surrounding areas.

Song Lo Bridge across the Lo River in Doan Hung District, Phu Tho Province, began construction in August 2010 and was inaugurated and put into use on March 21, 2015.

The bridge has a total investment of 215 billion VND from government bond capital. The project is 517.8m long, with a load capacity of 30 tons, and the approach roads at both ends of the bridge are 850m long. The cross-section of the bridge is 7.5m wide, with a 6.5m-wide vehicle path, 0.5m-wide railings on each side, and is equipped with a high-pressure lighting system on the bridge and the approach roads at both ends.

After 10 years of operation, Song Lo Bridge has seriously degraded, many bridge pillars have exposed steel parts, the inside is hollow, without concrete.
