Coach Kim Sang-sik's team delivered a convincing performance, defeating Malaysia and becoming the next team to qualify for the semi-finals of the SEA Games 33. This result also rekindled hopes of advancing for the Indonesian U22 team, who still have no points in Group C.
In the final match, U22 Indonesia will face U22 Myanmar to compete for the best-performing second-placed team. Because U22 Malaysia lost 0-2 to Vietnam, the yellow-and-black team only has a goal difference of +1. Therefore, if Indonesia wins against Myanmar by a margin of 3 goals or more, the defending champions will qualify for the semi-finals.
On Southeast Asian football forums, Indonesian fans expressed their excitement after Vietnam's U22 victory. One fan commented: "We were revived by Vietnam's goals." Another shared: "With Vietnam's help, Indonesia still has a chance to defend its title." Yet another fan messaged: "Thank you Vietnam, Indonesia will see you in the final."
If they reach the semi-finals, the Indonesian U22 team will most likely face the host nation, Thailand. According to the format, the four strongest teams in the semi-finals will be divided into two pairs. The two winning teams will advance to the final to compete for the gold medal, while the losing teams will compete for the bronze medal.
