As one of the bright spots of the NCT's art movement, the Provincial NCT Art Club was established in 2012 and currently has more than 30 members. Each person has a different background and expertise, but the members all share a passion for singing. Despite their advanced age, everyone still actively participates in practice with a lively and enthusiastic spirit. After hours of practice and exchange, everyone sits together to share and talk about joys and stories, thereby creating a bond, closeness and affection between members.
Mr. Nguyen Khanh Hung, Chairman of the Provincial Elderly Arts Club, said: Since its establishment, the Club has determined the goal of not only "singing for fun" but also creating a healthy playground to help members live happily, healthily, and usefully. Currently, the Club maintains activities once a week and even though they are over 60 or 70 years old, the members are still passionate about practicing, actively interacting, contributing to spreading the spirit of optimism and love of life in the community. In particular, the Club has won many high prizes at the Elderly Arts Festivals at all levels and regularly performs for local political and cultural events.
Not only the arts, the sports training movement is also actively responded by the elderly in the province with many diverse sports such as badminton, table tennis, volleyball... Notably, the 17-10 Table Tennis Club was established in 2010 with 10 members, currently the club has more than 50 members and more than 70% are elderly. Every day, the members gather to play table tennis every afternoon and evening. Mr. Vy Van Binh, Ky Lua ward shared: Joining the club is not only a joy for those who love table tennis but also brings many health benefits. Especially, for the elderly like us, table tennis also helps the body to be supple, flexible, trains reflexes, coordination between hands and eyes, helps the eyes become sharper, the mind becomes more agile. In each practice session, we both exercise and chat together, so the spirit is very comfortable, reduces fatigue, sleeps well and eats better. Thanks to this playground, our lives are more fun, healthy and meaningful every day.
Ms. Truong Thi Hoa, Permanent Vice President of the Provincial Elderly Association, said: Every year, the association directs all levels of the association to closely coordinate with sectors and organizations to organize many cultural and sports activities to create a healthy and useful playground for the elderly. Thereby, it not only helps members to exercise, exchange and learn, but also arouses the spirit of living happily, healthily and usefully, contributing to the successful implementation of the emulation movement "Old age - bright example" in the whole province.
According to statistics from the Provincial Elderly Association, the province currently has 445 active sports and arts clubs for the elderly, attracting more than 10,000 members to regularly practice and exchange.
Notably, every year, the provincial Elderly Associations coordinate with agencies, units and localities to organize many sports tournaments and art performances for the elderly at the district (old) and provincial levels, attracting thousands of members to participate. These activities not only strengthen the cohesion in the elderly community but also contribute to discovering and nurturing many outstanding factors. Since then, provincial representative teams have been established, participating in central-level sports tournaments and art performances for the elderly and have achieved many high achievements. Typically, in 2022, the provincial Elderly Volleyball Team achieved the Excellent Achievement Award at the 8th National Senior Volleyball Tournament; in 2023, the provincial Elderly Art Troupe achieved the B Prize at the Elderly Singing Festival in the Northern provinces and cities...
It can be seen that the arts and sports movement has contributed to improving the spiritual life of the elderly in the province. Many elderly people, even though they are over 70 and 80 years old, still enthusiastically participate in performances and competitions, becoming "bright spots" spreading positive energy in the community.
In the coming time, the Provincial Elderly Association will continue to replicate club models suitable to the reality of each locality; coordinate to organize training, exchanges, and competitions to improve the quality of activities. At the same time, mobilize social resources to improve facilities, help the elderly have a playground, practice, thereby not only living long but also living healthy, happy, useful lives, continuing to contribute experience, intelligence and optimism to the community.
