Developing livestock farming in a chain, linked with slaughtering and product consumption brings practical efficiency when managing product inputs and outputs. In particular, it helps to make product consumption more convenient. In Thai Nguyen , besides the achieved results, livestock farming in a chain is still facing many difficulties...

High economic efficiency
In reality, raising livestock in the form of a chain link brings much higher economic efficiency than traditional farming. Not only is there strict management from breeding, disease to selling, raising livestock in the chain link also helps people access modern science and technology, increase competitiveness and closely follow the market demand of the product.
Thereby, changing the awareness of livestock farming towards safety, creating quality products, meeting market demand. This is the reason why Thai Nguyen has promoted the development of livestock farming according to the chain link in recent years.
Mr. Dang Van Ngu, Director of Green Livestock Cooperative, Pha residential group, Luong Son ward (Song Cong city): We are raising pigs and chickens in a biosafety direction. The association in livestock farming between people and the cooperative helps people always feel secure about the output of the products.
We learned that when raising livestock in a chain, the enterprise is the unit that supplies breeds, feed, technical support, veterinary medicine and consumes products. The breeders build barns and waste treatment systems according to the enterprise's requirements, organize production and receive funding according to the contract. What makes people most secure is limiting risks in raising livestock, not worrying about output, quality of breeds as well as diseases...
In order to develop the linkage chain in livestock farming, in the past 5 years, the Thai Nguyen Agriculture sector has implemented many measures. For example, supporting the implementation of linkage chains. In 2024 alone, the sector supported the construction of a pork and chicken product chain in Phu Luong district. Basically, the chains have completed the production, processing, and trading processes and established a system for consuming safe pork and chicken products at markets, supermarkets, restaurants, and collective kitchens in the area.
At the same time, maintain and develop the software system of livestock management database in the province. Currently, there are more than 100 thousand livestock facilities with databases created on the system, helping livestock farmers promote and introduce their facilities, observe and promptly grasp the livestock situation in the area and the market.
Not only does this software help livestock purchasing businesses have more information channels to directly contact livestock farms, it also facilitates food traceability. Thereby, it contributes to facilitating State management and the formation and development of linkage chains in livestock farming, processing, and product consumption, meeting the province's digital transformation.
In addition, specialized agencies and relevant units have promoted and supported livestock farming households to connect with units and businesses to stabilize output and improve product quality.

Mr. Le Dac Vinh, Head of the Department of Animal Husbandry, Veterinary and Fisheries of the province, said: With many efforts, Thai Nguyen has 76 cooperatives, livestock production cooperatives, and 10 animal feed production enterprises. Accordingly, the province is maintaining the operation of over 20 production - slaughter, processing - consumption chains of livestock products, linking with livestock farms in supplying input materials, techniques and product consumption.
Notably, there are 400 farms (an increase of 60 farms compared to 2023) that have linked up with 14 joint venture and processing livestock companies (CP Vietnam Livestock Joint Stock Company, Dabaco Group, Japfa Comfeed Vietnam Company, Emivest Feedmill Vietnam Company Limited, Dung Minh Company...) to operate in livestock production, slaughter, and product consumption. Annually, the market is supplied with about 50,000 tons of pork and 65,000 tons of poultry meat. - Mr. Le Dac Vinh
Many obstacles to overcome
In reality, value chain livestock farming is being effectively implemented in Thai Nguyen. This is the right direction, creating safe livestock products and opening up sustainable development. However, it cannot be denied that this form is still facing many obstacles when the connection between businesses and livestock farmers is not really sustainable.
Nearly 10 years ago, in Thai Nguyen, there was a situation where the price of live pigs on the market increased higher than the price purchased by joint venture companies, causing some farms to break their joint contracts. This situation may continue to occur at the present time, when the selling price of live pigs on the market is much higher than the price purchased by joint venture companies.
In addition, livestock production still lacks stability in supply and demand, and the consumption market is often unstable. Meanwhile, livestock production costs such as breeding animals, investment in building barns, veterinary medicine, etc. in Vietnam in general, and Thai Nguyen in particular, are still higher than in some countries in the region; livestock products from the linked chains in Thai Nguyen have not been exported. Most alarmingly, safe livestock products in the province are still facing fierce competition with products of unclear origin and of uncertain quality that are widely sold in the market.
Mr. Nguyen Quang Phuc, Chairman of the Provincial Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Association : In order to develop livestock farming according to the chain linkage and create sustainable stability, we should first review and adjust the scale of livestock herds to suit market demand. Along with that, build brands for high-quality chain linkages to supply markets inside and outside the province; organize linkages according to the product chain from production to the market, in which enterprises play a central role in linking with cooperatives, cooperative groups...
Along with the above solutions, Thai Nguyen should continue to have more support policies on land funds and capital sources for businesses and people to invest and expand production; create closed linkage chains, focusing on deep processing to increase product value...
