Chelsea on the threshold of history, creating an unprecedented miracle

There are four major tournaments in Europe. The most prestigious is of course the C1/Champions League, which started in the 1955/56 season and was renamed in the 1992/93 season. In 2012, after a thrilling run, Didier Drogba and his team-mates won the European Cup/Champions League by beating Bayern Munich on penalties. The Blues' trophy haul was completed in 2013, with the UEFA Cup/Europa League after a win over Benfica.

With Juventus, Bayern and Manchester United having never played in the Conference League and Ajax eliminated in the round of 16 in the 2023/24 season, Chelsea will become the first club in history to win four European Cups if they beat Real Betis tonight. Of course, that comes with a hefty bonus. The Blues have already pocketed €8.5m for reaching the final and will receive an additional €8.1m if they win.
