Waiting for new opportunities on the 14G tourist route

On both sides of the border

National Highway 14G is one of the main traffic routes connecting Da Nang City with the mountainous areas of Quang Nam Province. The unique cultural life of the people and the beautiful landscape along the route are valuable resources for the two localities to soon access and exploit tourism .

In Hoa Vang district of Da Nang city, in recent times, a number of large entertainment destinations have been established such as: Hoa Phu Thanh tourist area, Nui Than Tai hot spring park, Ngam Doi eco-tourism area... located right next to 14G road.

Meanwhile, in Dong Giang district, there is also a series of destinations such as: Bho Hoong Community Tourism Village, Dho Rong Community Tourism Village, Suoi May Farm - Rose Farm...

However, the tourism picture between the two sides is quite contrasting. While destinations in Da Nang City welcome quite a large number of visitors, the community villages in Dong Giang are much quieter.

According to the weaving cooperative in the Dho Rong tourist village (Ta Lu commune, Dong Giang), their main source of income from tourism is providing brocade weaving products ordered by partners, and only occasionally do tourist groups visit the village.

According to Mr. Do Huu Tung - Acting Chairman of Dong Giang District People's Committee, in recent times, a number of agricultural tourism spots have been formed in the district, but the potential for eco-tourism and community tourism in the district is still very large and has not been properly exploited.

People in Ba commune living next to the tea hill confided that when night falls, from their porches, they see a strip of lights from Ba Na (Da Nang) shimmering. The distance between the two sides seems so close, but over time everything is still quite far away…

Waiting for new vitality for "tourism corridor"

From the center of Da Nang City, going towards the great forest along route 14G, if there is no welcome gate, what makes visitors feel that they are entering Dong Giang district is the change in traffic infrastructure.

The lack of connectivity in the entire 14G route is also an important reason why tourism activities in Quang Nam are sluggish.

Mr. Le Tan Thanh Tung - Deputy General Director of VITRACO Tourism - Event - Transportation Company said that limited traffic infrastructure and difficulty in moving 45-seat tourist vehicles are one of the main reasons why destinations in Dong Giang have not yet been visited by many domestic tourists from both ends of the country.

In fact, in addition to the unique indigenous cultural values, there is no shortage of unique tourism resources along Route 14G in the East Giang. These include the tea hills in Quyet Thang farm (Ba commune), A Pang hot mineral spring (Song Kon commune)... but so far, they have not found investors with real capacity to promote their value.

For example, since 2018, there has been a policy to invest in the A Pang hot mineral spring eco-tourism area with a project scale of more than 44 hectares and an investment capital of about 100 billion VND, but until now, for many reasons, it is still pending.

It is known that the consortium of units wanting to invest in this project still intends to increase the scale of the project's investment capital many times over because it sees the potential in connecting with the chain of destinations on Highway 14G. The upcoming policy of merging Quang Nam province with Da Nang city could be a "catalyst" for investors of this project to have more motivation to promote.

Mr. Pham Thanh Tung - Deputy Director of the Institute of Agricultural Economics and Tourism commented: "To promote tourism in the Western Quang Nam region, land use planning must convey the strategic intention of tourism development. The government must actively and proactively remove difficulties in mechanisms, policies and attract investment. At the same time, it must identify a vital tourism arc that is seamlessly connected with Da Nang."

Recently, Quang Nam province has announced the tourism corridor of the heritage route Hoi An - My Son Temple Complex - Dong Giang Heaven Gate. In the future, when the chain of destinations on Highway 14G is completed, another tourism corridor of Quang Nam can be formed so that the end point converges in the promising land of Dong Giang...
