In the joyful atmosphere of welcoming the Lunar New Year, localities throughout the province are organizing longevity celebrations and congratulatory ceremonies for the elderly. This is a beautiful traditional cultural practice of the nation, expressing the respect and gratitude of children and grandchildren towards their grandparents and parents, and providing an opportunity for the elderly to gather and spend time with their children, grandchildren, and family.

In Tay Phong commune (Tien Hai district), the longevity celebration takes place on the morning of the 4th day of the Lunar New Year every year. For the local government, organizing the longevity celebration is one of the main political tasks at the beginning of the year, and it is solemnly led and organized at the commune's cultural center.

Although living and working in Bien Hoa City ( Dong Nai province), Mr. and Mrs. Nguyen Van Chinh still managed to arrange their schedules to attend their mother's birthday celebration. He shared: "Many families and children gathered, creating a lively and joyful atmosphere for the ceremony. We hope that this annual birthday celebration will be maintained in the locality so that children and grandchildren have the opportunity to express their gratitude and filial piety to their parents and grandparents."

Mr. Ta Van Thuan, Head of the Representative Board of the Elderly Association of Tien Hai District, said: This year, the People's Committees of communes, wards, and towns, in coordination with the Elderly Associations at all levels in the district, organized birthday celebrations and congratulations for 5,400 elderly people. This ensured that all elderly people of eligible age received birthday greetings, and the ceremonies took place in a solemn and joyful atmosphere. Through this activity, not only did it bring joy to the elderly, but it also had the educational significance of encouraging children and the younger generation to continue upholding the beautiful tradition of "drinking water, remembering the source" of the nation.

Although each locality and family has different ways of expressing birthday wishes and celebrating longevity, they all carry beautiful meanings, showing respect, affection, and filial piety of children and grandchildren towards their elders.

Mr. Nguyen Van Mui, from Hop Tien commune (Dong Hung district), happily shared: "Thanks to the attention of the Party and the local government, I was able to celebrate my 95th birthday this year. I feel very happy and will try to live a healthy and joyful life and continue to educate my children and grandchildren to study and work hard to contribute to building a more prosperous and beautiful homeland."

Elderly people in Hop Tien commune (Dong Hung district) received birthday wishes and congratulations.

These days, shops selling bronze paintings are always bustling with customers arriving early in the morning. This is a popular choice for gifts to celebrate the longevity of grandparents and parents.

Ms. Dao Thi Hoai, owner of a copper painting shop on Tang Street (Dong Hung), shared: "I've been selling copper paintings for over 10 years. To meet the demand, my family started preparing the goods in November of the lunar calendar. My family has to work continuously until late at night to complete orders. This year, copper paintings are selling much better than in previous years. My shop sells many types of copper paintings in various sizes and designs; prices range from a few hundred thousand to 3 million dong. Customers often prefer simple products with reasonable prices, accompanied by meaningful poems wishing longevity."

“I find the bronze paintings this year very beautiful, and the prices are suitable for everyone. I also chose a painting I liked as a gift for my mother's 80th birthday, to express my gratitude and respect,” shared Ms. Nguyen Thi Duyen from Phu Chau commune (Dong Hung district).

Ms. Nguyen Thi Hoa, Deputy Head of the Provincial Elderly Association's Representative Board, said: In 2024, the elderly associations at all levels in the province, in coordination with local authorities, organized birthday celebrations and congratulations for over 51,000 elderly people aged 70, 75, 80, 85, 90, 95, 100, and over 100 years old. The celebrations and congratulations for the elderly were given attention by local authorities, organized solemnly and economically, in accordance with traditional customs and practices. All elderly people received flowers, gifts, and certificates of longevity. This activity demonstrates the concern of Party committees and authorities at all levels in caring for the elderly.

At the beginning of the new year, the tradition of wishing longevity to the elderly reflects the Vietnamese people's tradition of "respecting and honoring the elderly." This beautiful tradition has been and continues to multiply precious spiritual values, carrying practical significance and profound humanistic meaning, contributing to encouraging the elderly to continue to utilize their experience and wisdom to live happily, healthily, and usefully.
