Chinese experts inspect durian export chain in Vietnam from July 12 to 17

(NLDO) - Experts from the General Administration of Customs of China will inspect the Vietnamese durian export chain from July 12 to 17.

At a recent meeting of the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment (MARD), Mr. Do Hong Khanh, Chief of Office of the Department of Crop Production and Plant Protection, informed that Vietnam's durian exports are gradually recovering and regaining growth momentum.

Chinese experts will come to Vietnam to inspect durian export chain from July 12 to 17.

To promote exports, the Department of Crop Production and Plant Protection has invited experts from the General Administration of Customs of China (GACC) to conduct a field inspection of Vietnam's export chain (expected from July 12 to 17).

The Bureau requires testing laboratories to increase their testing capacity for Cadmium and O-gold. To date, 24 Cadmium testing laboratories and 14 O-gold testing laboratories have been approved by GACC.

The Ministry of Agriculture and Environment has completed a draft Circular guiding the issuance and management of codes for growing areas and packaging facilities in a strict, transparent and practical manner.

The Circular is in the process of synthesizing opinions and suggestions from ministries, sectors, localities, associations, organizations and individuals participating in the export chain and is expected to be issued soon in the near future.

As of June 2025, 1,396 durian growing area codes and 188 durian packing facilities have been granted codes, qualified to export to China.

Frozen durian exports tripled

According to a report from the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment, in the first 6 months of 2025, Vietnam exported 5,217 batches of fresh durian with an output of nearly 130,000 tons.

China's recent approval of nearly 1,000 additional codes for growing areas and packaging facilities, along with positive signals from a number of import markets, along with the synchronous and strict implementation of technical solutions, forecasts that fresh durian exports are likely to recover from the third quarter of 2025, especially during the main crop season from August to October.

Regarding frozen durian, Vietnam exported 388 batches with an output of 14,282 tons, 3 times higher than the same period in 2024. The export potential of frozen durian will continue to be a bright spot thanks to its stability and long-term preservation ability.

Currently, many businesses are willing to invest in modern processing lines and cold storage, meeting the standards of China and potential markets such as Korea, Japan, EU...

However, the Department of Crop Production and Plant Protection said that the recovery still depends largely on businesses and farmers maintaining food safety conditions as committed. If violations continue to recur, the export risk for this industry is still very high.
