Love story and fiery summer days in Quang Tri

In addition to his main job as a film director, Doi Xuan Viet also has a passion for literature and is the author of several books: "Passing Through the Sun" (2019), "I Only Have You" (2020), "Late Blooming Rhododendrons" (2020), "Legend of the Wonderful Lady" (2022), "Returning to the Origin" (2024) and most recently "Lost in Paradise".

On August 9, at Ho Chi Minh City Book Street, Ho Chi Minh City General Publishing House organized an exchange program on the occasion of the launch of the novel Lost to Paradise .

In addition to writer Doi Xuan Viet, the program also has the participation of writer Cao Chien and poet Le Minh Quoc as MCs.

Ms. Ong Thi Ngoc Linh, Deputy Director of Ho Chi Minh City General Publishing House, presented flowers to writer Doi Xuan Viet and two guests.

Writer Doi Xuan Viet was born in 1945 in Thanh Hoa and grew up in Hanoi . He joined the army and participated in the Quang Tri campaign in 1972.

The novel Lost in Paradise is his feelings and memories of the arduous fighting years on the Quang Tri battlefield in 1972.

With this work, Doi Xuan Viet once again returns to the theme of revolutionary war through a unique insight into the hidden corners and depths of the souls of those who went to war, through a beautiful love story.

The work is a love story between a soldier and a female youth volunteer, taking place during the fierce war in the fiery summer of 1972.

This is a pure, poetic love story of the first flowers of the season, both pure and romantic. Through this beautiful love story, the author conveys to the readers that: the soldiers when entering the war are all knowledgeable, cultured people and clearly aware of why they are going to war, what they are fighting for and that is the source of strength of the struggle for independence and freedom of the Fatherland.

In addition to his main job as a director, Doi Xuan Viet is also known as the author of many published books.

Sharing at the program, writer Doi Xuan Viet said that the great war to defend the country is far away but its memories still live forever in the souls of those who went to war, including him.

“The work recreates that war with the desire that nurtures the souls of the soldiers, which is always a concern in my mind. I want to affirm that we young soldiers going to war always carry within us the desire of youth, always love life, always wish to contribute, work, fight to complete our missions, ready to sacrifice and endure hardships.”

Borrowing love, writer Doi Xuan Viet recreates the arduous but resilient battle during the fiery summer days of 1972 in Quang Tri.

As someone who approached Lost in Paradise since it was still a manuscript, writer Cao Chien said that although he had read many works about war, this work still had its own charm and attracted him.

"This is a good work, reflecting the ideals of a generation, conveyed in a simple, rustic voice, without being dramatic, like when the Fatherland needs us, we go on the road. In particular, Doi Xuan Viet has applied the thinking of a director to writing novels, thanks to which the work is rich in cinematic quality, the setting and characters appear realistic, clear and very natural," said writer Cao Chien.
