Social and Family Affairs - After receiving breast filler injections, the patient began experiencing symptoms such as dizziness and fainting, followed by chills and fever; her breasts swelled and developed numerous lumps.
On January 15th, Viet Duc Friendship Hospital announced that it had recently admitted a patient who experienced complications after receiving breast filler injections at a spa.
Specifically, a 19-year-old female patient from Hoa Binh province was brought to the hospital with swollen breasts and multiple lumps.
Reportedly, after giving birth to her first child, noticing her breasts had shrunk, she went to a spa for breast enhancement. There, she was advised to have fillers injected into her breasts. After the injection, the patient began experiencing symptoms such as dizziness, fainting, and then chills and fever.
The patient was taken to an emergency room and underwent a brain scan, which revealed no abnormalities. However, the patient continued to experience swelling, pain, and multiple lumps in the chest, along with occasional fever, prompting them to seek treatment at Viet Duc Friendship Hospital.

Here, patients undergo ultrasound and X-ray imaging to pinpoint the exact location of the fillers in their bodies. Doctors then perform further ultrasounds to check for any connections or circulation within the filler material.
Because the patient is young and still wants to have children in the future, the doctors had to carefully consider how to remove as much of the infected filler as possible from her body, while ensuring it did not affect her ability to breastfeed later and maintaining aesthetic results.
Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Hong Ha, Head of the Department of Plastic and Aesthetic Surgery at Viet Duc Friendship Hospital, said: Doctors used modern endoscopic surgery combined with a multi-plane color ultrasound system during the cesarean section to remove most of the lumpy filler material from the patient's breasts.
This method has the advantage of requiring only a small incision, being aesthetically pleasing, and having minimal impact on the mammary glands, allowing patients to continue to be mothers and breastfeed their children in the future.
One week after surgery, ultrasound results showed that the fillers had been almost completely removed from the patient's breasts. The incision was small, dry, only a few centimeters long, and the function of the mammary glands was preserved almost to the maximum extent.
Many complications can arise from injecting fillers into the breasts.
According to Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Hong Ha, injecting fillers, also known as dermal fillers, into the breasts is an illegal practice under the regulations of the Ministry of Health . Previously, some people injected liquid silicone into their breasts, but this substance has long been banned.
Currently, some smuggled and unlicensed products, such as artificial fats, are being used for injection into the body. These substances are of unknown origin and unsafe, especially when injected into the mammary glands, a tissue responsible for milk production and with a high risk of causing cancer.
Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Hong Ha further explained that injecting substances of unknown origin into the chest can cause many dangerous complications. Immediately, blood vessel blockage can occur; the injected substance can travel to the brain or lungs and cause blockages in these organs. While rare, this is very dangerous and can threaten the patient's life.
Furthermore, injecting substances of unknown origin at unlicensed facilities increases the risk of infection. Many patients who receive filler injections at unlicensed spas often experience fever, chills, infection, or pus discharge from the injection site.
" In some cases, infections can be prolonged, causing breast swelling, pain, lumps, or pus discharge through fistulas, making treatment very difficult. Many patients require long-term hospital treatment, and some even need to have their entire breast removed," said Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Hong Ha.
Therefore, doctors recommend that when considering breast enhancement, women should thoroughly research safe and effective methods. Methods recognized by the Ministry of Health and the global medical community include surgical breast augmentation, especially endoscopic breast implant placement through the armpit.
This is a proven method for improving breast shape, thanks to advanced endoscopic techniques. Patients experience minimal post-operative pain, recover quickly, and achieve aesthetically pleasing results with no scars or blemishes on the breasts.
