Farmers apply advanced technology rice transplanters to rice production
Sustainable direction
In recent years, agricultural production has achieved many important results, contributing to the socio-economic development of Long An province. Annually, rice output reaches more than 2.7 million tons. One of the important factors bringing about the above results is the introduction of mechanization into production .
Many new machines and technologies are applied in rice cultivation, helping to save time, labor and input materials such as sensors, field control devices, fertilizer spraying planes, pesticides, seed spraying machines, cluster seeders combined with fertilizer and herbicide spraying or combine harvesters with storage chambers and discharge nozzles that are convenient for packing rice right in the field, saving labor.
According to the provincial Department of Rural Development and Irrigation, in 2015, 100% of the land preparation area in rice cultivation was mechanized. 70% of the rice sowing and transplanting area was sown by machine; 78% of the production area was actively irrigated by pump; 80% of the area was sprayed with pesticides by machine; 60% of the area was sprayed with fertilizer by machine. 97% of the production area was harvested by machine. 56% of the amount of straw and stubble was processed by straw rolling machine; 90% of the rice output was dried.
In the period of 2021-2025, it is estimated that by 2025, the number of agricultural machinery in the province will increase rapidly, with diverse types, meeting most of the pre-, during- and post-harvest stages (there are more than 6,950 plows, tillers of all kinds, 98 transplanters, 23,600 row seeding equipment, 826 self-propelled sprayers, 500 drones, 43,000 3-in-1 sprayers, more than 45,000 water pumps, 350 electric pumping stations, 1,600 combine harvesters, 1,192 straw rollers, 450 drying ovens) helping to increase the rate of agricultural mechanization.
According to statistics, it is estimated that by 2025, 100% of the land preparation area will be mechanized, 99% of the rice sowing area will be done by machine (including row sowing tools, transplanters, and unmanned aerial vehicles). 100% of the production area will be actively irrigated by electric or diesel pump stations; 100% of the area will be sprayed with pesticides by machine; 100% of the area will be harvested by machine; about 80% of the amount of straw and stubble will be processed by straw rollers and 100% of the rice output will be dried.
Spraying pesticides with mechanized equipment helps save time and labor.
Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Agricultural Production and Trade Service Cooperative 4.0 (Thanh Hoa district) - Nguyen Van Lanh said: “As the name suggests, since its establishment in 2022, we have introduced mechanization, applied science and technology, and changed farmers' thinking from agricultural production to agricultural economics . Currently, cooperative members have brought machinery into the fields from land preparation to harvesting. Using airplanes to sow helps reduce the amount of seeds to 60kg/ha; using drones to spray pesticides and fertilizers helps reduce 2-3 spraying times/crop”.
Deputy Director of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development - Ho Thi Ngoc Lan informed: "Rice is the main crop of the province, mechanization has developed very strongly. The number of combine harvesters has increased rapidly, in 2006 there were only 50 units, but in 2024 it has increased to 1,550 units, more than 31 times. Mechanization has developed strongly to meet production needs, especially in the harvesting stage, contributing to reducing the loss rate (estimated at about 10%)".
“ The application of technology and mechanization in rice cultivation has contributed to improving production efficiency. Thanks to the application of technology, the cultivation time is shortened, the rice quality is stable and meets market demand, saves costs, and reduces labor. This not only helps farmers improve their income but also creates favorable conditions for the development of a sustainable rice production model, increases the value of agricultural products in the province and minimizes the impact on the environment” - Ms. Ho Thi Ngoc Lan added.
Effective
The True Clean Agricultural Service Cooperative (Duc Hue district) was established in 2022, currently has 31 official members and 16 associate members, with a total production area of 75 hectares. Of which, the Cooperative maintains 5 hectares of ST25 rice grown using organic methods and 70 hectares of OM18 rice applying advanced farming techniques such as mechanization, IPM, "1 must, 5 reductions", alternating flooding and drying, etc.
Application of automatic pesticide spraying aircraft in rice cultivation helps protect farmers' health
Chairwoman of the Board of Directors and General Director of the Properly Clean Agricultural Services Cooperative - Nguyen Thi Cam Tien said: “Since its establishment, the cooperative has focused on maximum mechanization in all stages, from land preparation, sowing to spraying, fertilizing, and harvesting. Not only does it help increase productivity, mechanization also protects farmers’ health as they no longer have direct contact with chemicals in fertilizers or pesticides like before.”
Having been involved in rice farming for over 30 years, Mr. Huynh Cong Nguyen (Hamlet 1, My Thanh Dong Commune, Duc Hue District) joined the cooperative from the very beginning and is currently cultivating 3 hectares of rice. If in the past he had to "sell his face to the land and his back to the sky", now, thanks to the application of mechanization, he saves effort and time in agricultural production.
Mr. Nguyen shared: "Thanks to plowing and tilling machines, the fields are flatter. New combine harvesters with modern technology not only reduce post-harvest rice loss but also save time and labor. Production costs may not differ much, but the benefits are greater because they reduce time and labor, especially ensuring the health of farmers.
Currently, the True Clean Agricultural Service Cooperative mechanizes most of the stages in rice cultivation: Tillers combined with soil shafts in the soil preparation stage; sprayers, drones in seed spreading, fertilizing, and spraying; combine harvesters in harvesting; straw rollers for post-harvest processing. It is known that in the coming time, the Cooperative will continue to promote synchronous mechanization in all stages, minimize labor, and combine advanced farming techniques to increasingly increase the value of rice grains.
Harvesting rice with a combine harvester reduces labor and avoids rice loss.
Chairman of the Board of Directors of Huong Trang Agricultural Service, Production and Trade Cooperative (Moc Hoa District) - Tran Van Sua said that the land preparation process has been completely mechanized. 50% of the cooperative's production area is sown by airplane and 50% by shoulder-mounted machines. In particular, the cooperative has invested in 2 airplanes to spread fertilizer and spray pesticides. Thanks to that, farmers save time and effort in each crop season.
“Mechanization in rice cultivation helps solve the shortage of local labor; at the same time, it protects the health of producers and reduces environmental pollution. Spraying pesticides by plane helps control pests better, reduces the amount of pesticides needed and improves product quality, contributing to promoting sustainable development in rice cultivation. Saving costs on seeds, pesticides, fertilizers, etc. also helps farmers have extra money after each crop,” added Mr. Tran Van Sua.
Promoting mechanization in rice cultivation has been and will bring efficiency to farmers and the agricultural sector. With practical benefits and outstanding efficiency, mechanization is gradually becoming the main solution to help farmers increase their income, meeting the development requirements of modern agriculture./.
