Authorities "blow the whistle" on tourist area that allows visitors to hug and pet tigers

(PLVN) - The Forestry Department (Nghe An) has just issued a document requesting Hon Nhan Eco-tourism Area to immediately stop allowing tourists to come into contact with tigers raised in the Eco-tourism Area, which poses many potential dangers to public safety and health.

On April 16, the Nghe An Provincial Forest Protection Department said that it had just directed relevant units to inspect and rectify activities at zoos after images of tourists interacting with captive tigers appeared.

According to Nghe An Forest Protection Department, recently, social networks have been spreading images and videos recording a friendly tiger cub, clinging to its caregiver, constantly being petted and held like a pet at Hon Nhan eco-tourism area in Dien Doai commune, Dien Chau district.

Nghe An Forestry Department has issued a document requesting businesses to immediately stop allowing customers to come into contact with pets.

Immediately after that, Nghe An Forest Protection Department issued a document requesting this unit to immediately stop allowing visitors to have direct contact with animals, especially ferocious species such as tigers, lions, bears, etc. Remove all articles and images related to allowing people to have direct contact with tigers on social networking platforms and electronic information pages. At the same time, request Hon Nhan Tourist Area to have a written explanation about the incident of rectifying activities at the zoo.

In addition, the Forestry Department requires units to strictly comply with legal regulations on the protection of wild animals in general and wild animals in particular; do not allow people to come into direct contact with these species (except in cases of medical intervention by veterinary staff).

It is known that at Hon Nhan eco-tourism area, there are currently 25 large and small tigers, licensed to be imported and raised since 2016.
