To celebrate the 70th anniversary of Hai Phong's liberation (May 13, 1955 - May 13, 2025), on the morning of May 10, Vietnam Railways Corporation (VNR) coordinated with Hai Phong City to organize the ceremony to announce Hai Phong station as a tourist destination and launch a high-quality train named Hoa Phuong Do.
With the aim of meeting the increasing demands of passengers, VNR has comprehensively renovated and upgraded passenger cars with luxurious interiors and modern amenities such as semi-automatic doors, LED screens, free wifi, and typical images of the port city.
Notably, this is the first time the railway industry has put into operation a 34-seat VIP carriage, with an Indochinese-style interior. The 56-seat carriage is equipped with new-generation seats that can rotate 180 degrees, so passengers no longer have to worry about sitting in the opposite direction when the train is running.
Each carriage has a spacious hand washing area, modern and clean toilets. In addition, the train also has 64 standard seats, applying flexible fares to meet the diverse travel needs of customers.
The Red Flamboyant Train is a tourist product bearing the distinctive mark of the port city, and will certainly become a new choice for tourists when coming to Hai Phong.
Hai Phong Railway Station was built in 1902 and is one of the oldest and most historically valuable railway stations. On October 21, 1946, the train departing from here brought President Ho Chi Minh back to Hanoi after attending the Fontainebleau conference in France. Since then, October 21 has become the traditional day of the Vietnamese railway industry.
With ancient French architecture, Hai Phong station is not only a traffic transit point, but also a work with deep historical, cultural and artistic values associated with the formation and development of the port city.
The recognition of Hai Phong station as a tourist destination is a worthy recognition for a heritage that preserves the historical and cultural imprints of the city, affirming that Hai Phong station is not only a place to pick up and drop off train passengers, but will also be a cultural and tourist destination, the starting point for the journey to discover the beauty and famous culinary quintessence of the city of 'red phoenix flowers'.
Today's event is the initial result of the close cooperation between the Vietnam Railways industry and the Hai Phong City government, aiming towards a common goal of awakening the tourism potential imbued with the culture and identity of the port city by rail, opening a new direction in the future.
The ceremony to announce the decision to recognize Hai Phong station as a tourist destination and the inauguration of the Hoa Phuong Do train took place in a joyful and excited atmosphere of officials, party members and people of Hai Phong City celebrating the 70th anniversary of the city's liberation.
On the Hanoi – Hai Phong railway line, Vietnam Railways is regularly operating 4 pairs of trains per day. On weekends, holidays, and Tet, when travel demand increases, the railway industry operates 6 pairs of trains per day to serve people and tourists.
VNR General Director Hoang Gia Khanh affirmed that VNR is committed to continuing to promote infrastructure development projects, improve service quality and improve utilities on railway routes, contributing to the overall development of the transport industry; with the goal of bringing the best experiences and services to serve people and tourists, creating favorable conditions for economic, cultural and social development; at the same time, joining hands with the railway industry to widely implement the "Train - Flower Road" movement, so that the journey of the Hoa Phuong Do train truly brings many values to the community.
