On March 2, 2024, the Vietnamese Embassy in Israel organized the Spring Homeland Giap Thin 2024 program with the theme "Recreating the space of the old Tet," with the participation of over 200 guests, including Vietnamese people living, working and studying in Israel; Embassy staff and foreign friends of Vietnam.
Ambassador Ly Duc Trung informed the community about some of Vietnam's outstanding political , economic and foreign affairs achievements in the past year; affirmed that the Vietnamese State always has favorable policies and good feelings for the entire Vietnamese community abroad.
In particular, in 2023, an armed conflict occurred in Israel that lasted for many months, seriously affecting the lives of the Vietnamese community there.
The Embassy has made efforts to monitor the situation, promptly issue recommendations and support people with measures to prevent risks and ensure safety of life and property.
The spirit of solidarity and sharing has helped the Vietnamese community overcome difficulties and stay safe.
On behalf of the representative agency, Ambassador Ly Duc Trung presented certificates of merit to outstanding individuals with many achievements in citizen protection work in the past year.
Also at the event, guests enjoyed the area recreating the old Tet atmosphere with the area for wrapping Chung cakes, preparing Tet trays, displaying peach and kumquat trees and other decorations imbued with the traditional Vietnamese Tet holiday, watching art performances and enjoying traditional dishes.
Although far from home, people were able to live in the joyful and warm atmosphere of spring in their homeland, sharing about work and life at the workplace during difficult times.
Ms. Phuong Thao, an overseas Vietnamese who has lived in Israel for 16 years, shared: “I recently returned home to celebrate Tet and saw that Vietnamese people have very good traditions during Tet. Today, my husband and children and I came to attend. I try to teach my children to speak Vietnamese so that they will not forget their homeland, their roots and the beauty of the Vietnamese people.”
Present at the event, Mr. Dan Oppenhelm, a medical expert who has supported several projects in Vietnam, said: “I have been to Vietnam many times and I love your country: the beautiful landscapes, the dynamic cities, the peaceful villages. But above all, we love the Vietnamese people. That is why we are very excited to attend today's event.”
The Vietnamese community in Israel includes about 500 people with citizenship and permanent residency, 80 long-term workers and about 120 short-term agricultural trainees./.
