Community strength in drug prevention

Many large-scale drug use cases with a large number of participants were discovered during the Drug Prevention and Control Action Month, showing that inhumane people still brazenly organize “drug parties” without regard for anyone. It is worth mentioning that many cases of group drug use discovered recently involved a number of people working in state agencies, people that few people would think would commit themselves to drugs.

Worrying about drug abuse is necessary, but that alone is not enough. Many people see drug abuse and then cower in fear. There are not many brave people who speak out to fight against crime and this abuse. The weaker the fight against drug abuse from the community, the stronger, more brazen and reckless drug abuse will become. There used to be a very good media slogan: "The future and drugs do not coexist." Everyone understands that, but not many people have the understanding and action.

Responding to the 2023 Action Month on Drug Prevention and Control and the International Day on Drug Prevention and Control, the National Day on Drug Prevention and Control (June 26) this year, Deputy Prime Minister Tran Luu Quang, Chairman of the National Committee for HIV/AIDS, Drugs and Prostitution Prevention and Control, requested ministries, member agencies of the National Committee, People's Committees of provinces and centrally run cities to direct the implementation of the Action Month on Drug Prevention and Control from June 1 to 30 with the theme "Resolutely and effectively preventing and controlling drugs, enhancing responsibility, proactively coordinating - For a drug-free community". Through the action month, the role, responsibility and effectiveness of coordination work of all levels and sectors from the central to local levels are enhanced; thereby, mobilizing the combined strength of the entire political system and the entire population to participate in drug prevention and control; towards building a drug-free community. Along with that, promote propaganda, create a nationwide drug prevention and control communication campaign. Strengthen the work of grasping the situation, preventing, fighting and suppressing drug crimes. Improve the quality and effectiveness of drug addiction treatment, management of drug addicts, illegal drug users and post-treatment management; contribute to reducing supply, reducing demand and reducing the harmful effects of drugs.

The goals and tasks are very clear. In addition to fighting against drug crimes and strengthening drug rehabilitation, it is necessary to promote communication activities to help change people's awareness. But more importantly, the target audience must truly listen, share and act together. Each individual's actions and each family's actions will create communities of action that contribute to preventing and repelling this particularly dangerous crime.
