Following Typhoon No. 3, the Hanoi -Lao Cai railway line suffered severe damage with over 20 points of deep flooding and more than 45 points of serious landslides. Many trees, signal poles, and power poles fell onto the tracks, completely disrupting the operation of this important railway line. In Phu Tho, the railway line running through Ha Hoa district was severely affected with many points of deep flooding, roadbed erosion, landslides, and crushed stone embankment erosion.

Railway Infrastructure Maintenance Team No. 4 conducted inspections and repairs of areas where the railway embankment had collapsed or been washed away.

To mitigate the consequences of Typhoon No. 3, Vinh Phu Railway Joint Stock Company directed its departments and affiliated units to quickly arrive at the scene, remove fallen trees, and urgently repair landslides and eroded roadbeds; deal with fallen trees blocking the railway tracks, and be on standby at points at risk of landslides...

However, after the storm passed, heavy rains and flash floods caused several sections of railway in Ha Hoa district to be submerged, resulting in landslides and soil erosion that damaged the roadbed, causing serious disruptions and almost paralyzing railway transport operations in the area.

The flooding in Ha Hoa town not only affected the railway tracks but also caused flooding and landslides in areas around Doan Thuong station, with soil, rocks, silt, and mud clogging the drainage ditches. From km 133+050+km 133+095 to km 143+125+km 143+410, there was erosion of the roadbed and bedrock, landslides, and rock shoulders. Specifically at km 144+410+km 144+417, the embankment soil slid down onto the roadbed. At Viet Tri Bridge (km 71+341), a large train drifting freely from upstream collided with and broke two inspection vehicles for spans 2 and 3, and damaged four rails supporting the inspection vehicles. After a preliminary assessment of the situation on the railway line through Ha Hoa district, the company's leadership directly instructed the relevant teams and units to organize timely repairs and remediation.

While diligently repairing flooded and eroded sections of the railway line passing through Ha Hoa district, Mr. Truong Tien Loi, Deputy Team Leader of Railway Infrastructure Maintenance Team No. 4, Vinh Phu Railway Joint Stock Company, said: "The team currently has 54 people. Over the past few days, the entire team has been divided into two shifts working 24/7. In addition, other teams from unaffected areas have come to reinforce the team. With the landslides, eroded roadbeds, and flooding, we have deployed the transportation of rubble to reinforce the eroded sections and transported crushed stone to the affected areas. However, many construction sites have level crossings and are far from the road, making the implementation process difficult." Nevertheless, with the efforts of the company's staff, by 8:00 AM on September 15th, trains were able to resume at a speed of 5 km/hour, and currently, some points have increased the speed to 15 km/hour.

The Hanoi- Lao Cai railway line reopened at 8:00 AM on September 15th.

Speaking with us, Mr. Le Minh Truong, Deputy Director of Vinh Phu Railway Joint Stock Company, said: “Due to the large volume of repairs needed, to shorten the construction time, units in the railway industry have proactively repaired sections with minor damage so that materials can be transported to areas with major damage. Contingency plans have also been made for materials and equipment for construction, so the repair progress has not been significantly affected. According to projections, the repair work on the Hanoi - Lao Cai railway line will be completed so that trains can resume operation at full speed by the end of October.”
