April CPI up slightly due to rising rental housing prices, food and catering prices

The General Statistics Office ( Ministry of Finance ) has just released a report on the commodity price market in April and the first 4 months of 2025.

Compared to the previous month, the CPI in April 2025 increased by 0.07%; in which, the increase in rental housing prices, food prices and eating out prices were the main reasons for the slight increase in the CPI in April. Compared to December 2024, the CPI in April increased by 1.37% and increased by 3.12% over the same period last year. On average, in the first 4 months of 2025, the CPI increased by 3.2% over the same period last year, core inflation increased by 3.05%.

According to the General Statistics Office, the factors that increased the CPI in the first four months of 2025 compared to the same period were the price index of food and catering services, which increased by 3.86%, contributing to a 1.3 percentage point increase in the overall CPI. The price index of housing, electricity, water, fuel and construction materials increased by 5.26% due to increased rental housing prices and input material prices, causing the overall CPI to increase by 0.99 percentage points. The price index of medicine and medical services increased by 14.19%, causing the overall CPI to increase by 0.76 percentage points. In addition, the price index of household equipment and appliances increased by 1.57%, causing the overall CPI to increase by 0.11 percentage points.

Core inflation in April increased by 0.21% compared to the previous month and by 3.14% compared to the same period last year. On average, core inflation in the first four months of the year increased by 3.05% compared to the same period last year, lower than the general average (up 3.2%), mainly due to the prices of food, foodstuffs, electricity, and medical services, which are factors that increase the CPI but are excluded from the list of core inflation calculations.
