At Le Quy Don High School for the Gifted, Quy Nhon Ward (formerly Binh Dinh), the learning atmosphere has returned to almost normal. The early morning class at the beginning of the week was more lively than usual when students met each other a few days after Typhoon Kalmaegi.

It's just that the classroom today looks a bit strange, because the main door and windows were blown away by the storm, the classroom is "closer to nature" than ever.

Teacher Huynh Le Minh, the school's principal, said this facility was one of the schools most heavily damaged by the storm, estimated at more than 2.5 billion VND.

The green trees that shaded the school yard were almost all torn up, uprooted, and broken. The large, heavy stone benches were also blown over by the storm and shattered.

The wind blew away all the doors and windows of 8 classrooms, leaving them exposed to the open air. In the laboratory building and the gymnasium , the corrugated iron and tile roofs were blown away by the wind, leaving holes in them.

In order for students to arrive at school on time on Monday morning, two days ago, the school mobilized all staff, teachers, police, soldiers, and workers from the tree company to clean up the school.

Lighting systems and wall fans in classrooms were urgently replaced to meet the minimum requirements for students to have a place to study.

The provincial leaders also paid attention to the damage to the door system, corrugated iron roof, and tile roof, directing the Department of Education and Training to promptly disburse funds for repairs to ensure the teaching and learning activities of teachers and students.

Mr. Phan Van Nam, Director of the Department of Education and Training of Gia Lai province, said that today, students in the whole province returned to school. The schools have basically repaired the damage or arranged spare classrooms and department rooms, and divided the students into shifts to ensure that the school schedule is not delayed.

In the long term, surveys will be carried out and post-disaster repair estimates will be prepared and submitted to the Provincial People's Committee for funding arrangement.

Mr. Nam said that some schools that suffered heavy damage in the recent storm were Nguyen Dieu High School, Tuy Phuoc Dong Commune; Le Quy Don High School for the Gifted, Quy Nhon Ward; Nhon Hanh Middle School and Nhon Thanh Middle School, An Nhon Bac Ward.
