On November 3, 108 Military Central Hospital received and treated a young man (22 years old, Hanoi ) who suffered serious injuries to his genitals after an injury while playing soccer.
The patient was a healthy young man who, while trying to "save the ball," unfortunately fell and hit his scrotum.

At first, he only felt slight pain and swelling in his scrotum, thinking it was a minor injury so he did not go to the doctor or get treatment. However, after about 7 days, his scrotum swelled rapidly, was very painful, and the scrotum began to discharge fluid and pus.

He went to the Department of Andrology - 108 Military Central Hospital for examination. Through ultrasound and examination, the doctors found that the testicle was ruptured, infected and necrotic, forcing them to surgically remove the entire damaged testicle to prevent the infection from spreading and endangering his life.

After surgery, the patient's health condition is stable.

According to Dr. Phan Le Nhat Long, testicular injuries are rare because the testicles are located in the center of the body and are naturally protected.

When in danger, men often have the reflex to hug their genitals for protection. Moreover, the testicles are located in the scrotum, a structure with loose, elastic tissue, which helps reduce the impact of impact force.

The most common cause of testicular trauma is a direct blow, or an upward force while in a squatting position.

Dr. Long also shared that according to the classification of the American Association of Traumatologists (AAST), testicular trauma is divided into 5 levels. In which, level I means contusion, hematoma in the testicle but no tear of the visceral membrane of the testicle can be treated medically.

From grade II to grade V, exploratory surgery is needed to treat the injury, from restoring the visceral membrane to removing the testicle if it is necrotic.

"Therefore, after suffering a scrotal-testicular injury, the patient should go to a specialized medical facility as soon as possible for timely examination and treatment. Even if the injury seems minor, an early ultrasound examination can help detect early damage inside the testicles and preserve reproductive function," Dr. Long recommended.
