Speaking to Tuoi Tre Online on the morning of November 4, Lieutenant Colonel Luu Phuoc Thuy - Deputy Chief of Political Affairs of the Defense Command of Region 3 - Tra My (Military Region 5), said that in recent days, soldiers of units of Military Region 5 continued to stay in the landslide area of Tra My commune, Da Nang city (Nam Tra My district, former Quang Nam province) to carry supplies to the people.

Directly commanding the force helping people in Tra My is Lieutenant Colonel Dang Ngoc Toan, Commander of the Defense Command of Region 3 - Tra My.

Mr. Toan said that the situation is now basically stable, especially the road to Tra Leng commune has been cleared, ensuring the flow of goods from outside to the people during their time of sheltering in the huts. However, the people are still supported by the army to stabilize their shelters because the risk of landslides still exists.

"The prolonged heavy rains put the hills at high risk of landslides. After surveying, the soldiers went into the villages to lead people to evacuation sites and then began cutting bamboo and using tarpaulins to build shelters.

With houses made of bamboo and thatch, it takes an average group of 15 people a day to complete. They also reused the frames and wooden materials from houses buried by rocks and soil to make the shelter frames, keeping them for people to reuse later.

Up to now, a total of 45 temporary huts have been built in villages and communes within the unit's area," said Lieutenant Colonel Thuy.

Continuous rain and floods over the past few days have increased the risk of landslides in villages 2, 3, 4 (Tra Leng commune), Ngoc Giac, Tra Giac, Ngoc Tu, Song Y villages (Tra Tan commune)... To ensure the safety of the people, the army has selected safe areas and built huts for households to take shelter. Only when safety is assured will people be allowed to return to their villages.
