On the morning of July 11, Deputy Minister of Construction Le Anh Tuan worked with the People's Committee of Da Nang City on the planning and development plan for two airports in Da Nang City after merging with Quang Nam , namely Da Nang Airport and Chu Lai Airport.

Deputy Minister Le Anh Tuan commented that Da Nang City with Da Nang airport has long become the international gateway of the Central region, playing an important role and position in the key economic zone.

After merging with Quang Nam, Da Nang City (new) is the only locality with 2 international airports, so Da Nang City needs to review the planning to maximize the effectiveness and advantages of these 2 airports.

"Aviation must develop in parallel with tourism, especially in Da Nang City. In addition to tourism, it is necessary to calculate new economic pillars of Da Nang City associated with tourism such as the International Financial Center, Free Trade Zone... so that the aviation industry in general and the two airports can make a breakthrough," said Deputy Minister Le Anh Tuan.

The Deputy Minister added that the goal of developing two new airports in Da Nang City is to maintain the orientation of "smart city", sustainable development, and smart transportation of Da Nang City.

According to the plan, Da Nang International Airport with its convenient location connecting to tourist destinations is expected to welcome 25 million passengers by 2030 and 30 million by 2050.

Mr. Tran Anh Vu, Deputy General Director of Vietnam Airports Corporation (ACV), said that ACV proposed to expand and increase the capacity of Terminal T1 (domestic) from 6 million passengers/year to 10 million passengers/year, Terminal T2 (international) from 4 million to 6 million passengers/year, the cargo terminal project with a capacity of 100,000 tons of cargo, applying new technology to ensure the ability to continue to increase capacity in the development roadmap.

Sharing the same view, Mr. Le Quang Nam, Vice Chairman of Da Nang City People's Committee, agreed to expand Terminals T1 and T2 of Da Nang International Airport. However, due to long-term planning and investment, it is possible that in the future some items at Da Nang Airport will no longer be suitable and need to be adjusted.

In the short term, Da Nang City will continue to prioritize international visitors to Da Nang airport, but in the long term, it needs to share with Chu Lai airport; therefore, it is necessary to study and coordinate the planning of Da Nang and Chu Lai airports as well as the traffic system connecting the two airports.

In particular, ACV will sponsor the completion of planning documents for Da Nang International Airport and Chu Lai International Airport. Deputy Minister Le Anh Tuan requested ACV to submit the initial planning to the Ministry of Construction in September, and requested Da Nang City and relevant parties to coordinate in removing land issues to facilitate the development of the two airports.
