On the morning of July 11th, Deputy Minister of Construction Le Anh Tuan worked with the People's Committee of Da Nang City on the planning and development plan for the two airports of Da Nang City after its merger with Quang Nam province : Da Nang Airport and Chu Lai Airport.
Deputy Minister Le Anh Tuan remarked that Da Nang City, with Da Nang Airport, has long been the international gateway to the Central region, playing an important role and holding a significant position as a key economic zone.
Following its merger with Quang Nam, the (new) Da Nang City is the only locality with two international airports. Therefore, Da Nang City needs to review its planning to maximize the effectiveness and advantages of these two airports.

"Aviation must develop in parallel with tourism, especially in Da Nang City. Besides tourism, we need to consider new economic pillars of Da Nang City linked to tourism, such as an international financial center and a free trade zone, so that the aviation industry in general and the two airports in particular can achieve breakthroughs," Deputy Minister Le Anh Tuan said.
The Deputy Minister added that the goal of developing the two new airports in Da Nang City is to maintain the city's orientation towards a "smart city," sustainable development, and smart transportation.
According to the plan, Da Nang International Airport, with its convenient location connecting to tourist destinations, is projected to welcome 25 million passengers by 2030 and 30 million by 2050.

Mr. Tran Anh Vu, Deputy General Director of Vietnam Airports Corporation (ACV), said that ACV proposed expanding and increasing the capacity of Terminal 1 (domestic) from 6 million passengers/year to 10 million passengers/year, Terminal 2 (international) from 4 million to 6 million passengers/year, and a cargo terminal project with a capacity of 100,000 tons of cargo, applying new technology to ensure the ability to continue increasing capacity in the development roadmap.
Sharing the same view, Mr. Le Quang Nam, Vice Chairman of the Da Nang City People's Committee, agreed to expand terminals T1 and T2 of Da Nang International Airport. However, due to long-standing planning and investment, some items at Da Nang airport may no longer be suitable in the future and need adjustment.
For the time being, Da Nang City will continue to prioritize international visitors at Da Nang Airport, but in the long term, it needs to share the burden with Chu Lai Airport; therefore, it is necessary to study and coordinate the planning of Da Nang and Chu Lai airports as well as the transportation system connecting the two airports.
In this context, ACV is funding the completion of the planning documents for Da Nang International Airport and Chu Lai International Airport. Deputy Minister Le Anh Tuan requested ACV to submit the initial planning documents to the Ministry of Construction in September, and asked Da Nang City and relevant parties to coordinate in resolving land-related issues to facilitate the development of the two airports.
