Da Nang identifies medicinal herbs and ginseng as having great development potential.

SKĐS - Identifying ginseng and medicinal herbs as areas with great development potential, Da Nang is promoting the implementation of a synchronous development program, assigning specific responsibilities to each department and sector to create clear changes in the conservation, processing and development of local medicinal herbs brands.

In recent years, Da Nang City and its functional units have made efforts to preserve, propagate and develop Ngoc Linh Ginseng growing areas. According to the report, the planned area for growing Ngoc Linh Ginseng in the city is 15,567 hectares. The transplanting of Ngoc Linh Ginseng has been surveyed and implemented in the communes of Tra Bui, Hung Son, Phuoc Thanh, and La Ee.

Currently, the Ngoc Linh Ginseng and Medicinal Materials Development Center has built a biodiversity conservation facility, completed the system of preserving plant varieties and precious genetic resources, contributing to preserving the sustainability of this "national treasure".

Not only preserving, the units also proactively enclose and cultivate 6 other precious medicinal plants such as purple cardamom, codonopsis, angelica... creating a foundation for the development of a diverse medicinal plant industry, aiming to form a green, environmentally friendly ecosystem.

Up to now, the area planted to preserve Ngoc Linh ginseng is 15 hectares, the number of Ngoc Linh ginseng seedlings from 2 years old and older is 281,129 trees. Regarding the development of the planting area, in recent times, the total area planted with Ngoc Linh ginseng has grown to about 1,294 hectares.

Towards a national pharmaceutical industry center

In the city, there are currently 10 enterprises participating in purchasing and processing Ngoc Linh Ginseng. However, to affirm the brand position, Da Nang is gradually attracting large enterprises to invest in deep processing, diversifying products, and applying modern technology in production.

The city's Department of Science and Technology has developed a Program for research, application of science and technology to develop Ngoc Linh Ginseng products and medicinal herbs in Da Nang City for the period 2025-2030, with a vision to 2045. This is the foundation for sustainable development of the medicinal herbs industry, promoting innovation and forming a national medicinal herbs industry center.

Combining economic development with preserving indigenous values

Developing Ngoc Linh Ginseng not only aims at economic benefits but is also associated with protecting the ecological environment, preserving indigenous culture and creating stable livelihoods for people in mountainous areas. In particular, combining the development of ecotourism with the promotion and introduction of ginseng and medicinal products in localities such as the two districts of Nam Tra My (old) and Tu M'rong (old) opens up a new direction - developing tourism associated with indigenous identity and knowledge.

On the morning of November 5, during a working session with relevant agencies and units on the situation and progress of implementing tasks on implementing the Vietnam Ginseng Development Program to 2030, with a vision to 2045 and the Project "Developing and forming a medicinal plant industry center in Quang Nam province with Ngoc Linh Ginseng as the main crop", Mr. Ho Quang Buu - Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Da Nang City emphasized: Medicinal plants and ginseng are fields with great development potential for the locality. With the advantage of being a tourist city, Da Nang can promote the connection and complementarity between tourism development and the development of the medicinal plant industry, creating high and sustainable added value.

Mr. Buu also proposed to promote propaganda work, organize communication activities, competitions, bring knowledge about ginseng and medicinal herbs into schools, contributing to raising community awareness, nurturing pride and awareness of preserving the "national treasure" Ngoc Linh Ginseng.

Developing Ngoc Linh Ginseng is not only the story of an economic product, but also a symbol of the intelligence, bravery and aspiration of the Vietnamese people in the journey to master indigenous resources and build a green and sustainable economy.
