In 2024, the Central Committee, the Politburo, the Secretariat, and the Central Inspection Commission disciplined 68 officials under central management. This included, for the first time, disciplinary action against two former key leaders by the Politburo.
On the morning of December 31st, at the Party Central Headquarters, General Secretary To Lam , Head of the Central Steering Committee on Anti-Corruption, Waste, and Negative Phenomena, chaired the 27th session of the Steering Committee. 906 new cases/2,068 defendants were prosecuted for corruption offenses. Announcing the results of the session this afternoon, the Central Internal Affairs Commission stated that the work of detecting and handling corruption and negative phenomena continues to be strongly, decisively, and comprehensively directed; violations are handled resolutely and strictly, but also in a humane manner, focusing on differentiation in handling violators and protecting officials who dare to think and act for the common good. In 2024, Party committees and inspection committees at all levels disciplined 709 Party organizations and 24,097 Party members for violations. 
Specifically, regarding cases and incidents under the supervision and direction of the Steering Committee, 8 new cases/29 defendants were prosecuted, and 174 additional defendants were prosecuted in 13 cases; 13 cases/449 defendants were concluded, and 6 cases/32 defendants were concluded with supplementary investigations; 12 cases/440 defendants were prosecuted; 14 cases/536 defendants were tried at the first instance, and 16 cases/118 defendants were tried at the appellate level, receiving public approval and high praise. Central and local prosecuting agencies have initiated new prosecutions in 4,732 cases/10,430 defendants for corruption, economic, and official misconduct crimes; of which, 906 cases/2,068 defendants were newly prosecuted for corruption crimes. Significant results have been achieved in the recovery of assets obtained through corruption; in cases and incidents under the supervision and direction of the Steering Committee, civil enforcement agencies have recovered nearly 19,000 billion VND. In 2024, 344 cases with signs of criminal activity were transferred to investigative agencies for investigation and handling according to the law. The Politburo and the Secretariat have revised and supplemented the functions and tasks of the Central Steering Committee and provincial-level Steering Committees to direct waste prevention and control. The General Secretary, Head of the Steering Committee, has issued many strong directives on waste prevention and control; Party committees and organizations at all levels have thoroughly understood and seriously implemented key and breakthrough tasks in waste prevention and control. In particular, they have directed the review and resolution of difficulties and obstacles, and the handling of long-standing issues related to projects and works that are behind schedule and at risk of significant losses and waste; and have initiated investigations and prosecutions in several cases involving large-scale waste of state budget funds. The Party Central Committee also focused on directing efforts to improve the effectiveness of measures to prevent corruption, waste, and negative practices; especially in personnel work, streamlining organizational structures, and enhancing the revolutionary ethics of cadres and Party members. The Politburo issued and directed the thorough implementation of the Regulations on the Revolutionary Ethics Standards of Cadres and Party Members in the New Period, creating positive changes in awareness and action, contributing to preventing corruption, waste, and negative practices from the root. The Government, ministries, sectors, and localities focused on strongly implementing Government Project 06, linked with promoting administrative reform, digital transformation, the development of a digital government and digital economy, and cashless payments;... contributing to saving time and costs, minimizing harassment and inconvenience for citizens and businesses, improving the business environment, and promoting socio-economic development. For the first time, the Politburo disciplined two former key leaders of the Party and State for violations of regulations in performing their assigned duties and responsibilities, and for violations of the rules prohibiting certain actions by Party members and failing to set an example. This clearly affirms the strictness and high determination of the General Secretary, the Party, and the State in combating corruption and negative practices. In addition, the Inspection and Auditing sectors have focused on inspecting and auditing areas and localities prone to corruption and negative practices, and those of public concern; through inspections and audits, they have recommended the recovery and handling of 104,042 billion VND and 40 hectares of land; and recommended administrative sanctions against 2,065 collectives and 7,836 individuals. In 2024, provincial steering committees placed 155 cases and incidents under monitoring and guidance; directed local prosecuting agencies to initiate new prosecutions in 848 cases/1,884 defendants for corruption offenses. Many localities have detected and strictly handled numerous serious and complex cases of corruption and negative practices, including those that occurred many years ago; prosecuted officials under the management of provincial and city Party committees; disciplined 130 heads and deputy heads of agencies, organizations, and units for negligence leading to corruption and negative practices within their management and supervision, including 45 cases resulting in criminal prosecution.
