Vietnam-US parliamentary cooperation has become a bright spot in bilateral relations and has made great contributions since the period when the two countries healed their war past, normalized relations and now become a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.
The Vice Chairman of the National Assembly asked Ambassador Knapper to urge the US to continue to pay attention to dedicating resources to realizing the commitments made between the leaders of the two countries, coordinate to promote increased contact and exchange of delegations at all levels and channels, especially visits by high-ranking leaders to contribute to enhancing understanding and consolidating political trust between the two countries.
Regarding exchange activities between the two National Assemblies, the Vietnamese National Assembly is ready to welcome delegations from the US Congress to visit and work, and hopes that the two sides will promote exchange activities and learn from legislative experiences.
Ambassador Marc Knapper affirmed that the US always wishes to closely coordinate with Vietnam to effectively implement the contents of the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership framework on all pillars. The Vice Chairman of the National Assembly suggested that the Ambassador and the US Embassy continue to strengthen connections, promote cooperation, technology transfer, support Vietnam to become a high-tech center of the region and an important "link" in the global semiconductor supply chain as well as continue to urge the US to soon recognize Vietnam's Market Economy Status and remove Vietnam from the D1 and D3 strategic export control lists.
Ambassador Knapper shared his deep impressions of the determination of Vietnamese authorities at all levels in implementing two-tier local government, saying that he himself witnessed the initial successes of this implementation through recent local business trips.
The Ambassador emphasized the important role of the Vietnamese National Assembly in implementing major policies on long-term national development, most clearly demonstrated through the success of the 9th session of the 15th National Assembly.
The US business community was particularly encouraged by the results achieved at the recent Congressional session, especially those related to the digital economy and high-tech infrastructure development.
Ambassador Knapper also expressed his deep condolences over the tourist boat accident in Quang Ninh on July 19, affirming that the US is ready to support Vietnam in natural disaster prevention, search and rescue, and response to extreme weather events.
