Returning from a long trip to visit relatives in New Zealand, artist Dang Mau Tuu immediately presented to the public the exhibition “Aotearoa - a land of white clouds” (opening at Le Ba Dang Art Center, Le Loi Street, Hue City on June 27). Not only relatives and friends but also art lovers were surprised and amazed by the powerful creativity of an elderly artist.
During nearly two months in that beautiful country, he not only visited relatives, but also spent time on his own passion - which is composing to record the memories and subtle vibrations of the artist's soul in the places he visited.
Thanks to that, nearly 40 works of the artist when displayed seem to take viewers on a journey in the wild but poetic land of New Zealand. Why Aotearoa, according to the artist himself, "Aotearoa means the land of the long white cloud. In the native language, New Zealand is called Aotearoa".
Using many materials, Dang Mau Tuu told viewers about the peaceful wild nature, the civilized life and culture of the extremely friendly indigenous people. There, there is the ancient church in Lake Takapo, the Lonely Tree in Lake Wanaka, the Autumn Sky in Queentown, or the Afternoon in the Sea Village in Wellington Bay...
“When I arrived in Aotearoa, I saw familiar landscapes and clouds that I thought I had seen 60 years ago when I left my homeland,” artist Dang Mau Tuu said with emotion when he set foot in Aotearoa and that was the endless source of inspiration for him to create this series of paintings.
That scene was truly overwhelming, fresh and impressive to a person like painter Dang Mau Tuu. “Everything was clean and pristine. Looking up at the sky, it was strangely high and green. The night sky was full of bright stars. The night sky was even clearer. Every afternoon, the clouds rolled in, always changing with many indescribable colors. Going down to the South Island, I was overwhelmed by the gentle autumn sunshine with thousands of leaves changing seasons on the trees. The mountains and forests were dyed with magical colors, gradually changing into clear yellow or bright red, reflecting on the immense lakes and mountain ranges with many shades that no pen could describe,” painter Dang Mau Tuu felt every detail, his heart filled with emotions.
Through the eyes and emotions of a stranger in this country called Aotearoa, artist Dang Mau Tuu has transformed real life into his works and thought about it with deep feelings. Just like that, with the artistic talent and sincere emotions of an artist, a traveler from the distant land of Vietnam, artist Dang Mau Tuu seems to take viewers on a journey through those works.
Many people who have enjoyed his paintings have wished that they would have the opportunity to set foot in that beautiful country, to feel what the artist himself felt. “It is a country that many people wish to have the opportunity to set foot in. But if you have not had the chance, then see this exhibition, it is like a stepping stone, like a walk but full of emotions”, young person Nguyen Vy (Hue City) shared when admiring the scenery of New Zealand through the paintings of artist Dang Mau Tuu.
