Dang Van Lam has many opportunities to return to the national team

Currently thriving with Phu Dong Ninh Binh Club, 31-year-old Vietnamese goalkeeper Dang Van Lam may be called up by coach Kim Sang-sik to prepare for the match against Malaysia in June 2025.

Defensive leader qualities

The last time Dang Van Lam appeared in the Vietnamese national team jersey was in the trip to Korea to train before the 2024 ASEAN Cup. However, due to injury, he was removed from the list of participants in this most prestigious tournament in Southeast Asia.

After recovering from injury, Van Lam is in impressive form for Phu Dong Ninh Binh Club in the National First Division. He and his teammates have a good chance of being promoted to V-League after having a series of 14 consecutive wins, conceding only once. Van Lam's top form not only helps his team lead the rankings but also scores points with the national team's coaching staff.

In addition to Dinh Trieu and Nguyen Filip, the "goalkeeper" position of the Vietnamese team is also competing with promising young faces such as Van Toan ( Hai Phong ), Van Viet (SLNA), Trung Kien (HAGL). However, in terms of experience in battle, international competition, ability to command the defense and recent stable performance, Dang Van Lam still has the advantage.

In the 14th round of the First Division on April 19, Coach Kim Sang-sik sent his assistant - Goalkeeper Coach Lee Woon-jae - directly to Ninh Binh Stadium to watch Van Lam play. This is a sign that Van Lam will most likely return to the Vietnam team to prepare for the trip to Malaysia to participate in the second round of the 2027 Asian Cup qualifiers.

If called back, Van Lam will not only help the Vietnamese team increase their confidence in front of goal but also inspire his teammates with his playing experience. Van Lam is better than Dinh Trieu in terms of physical condition and more fluent than Nguyen Filip in the ability to communicate in Vietnamese with teammates.
