At the invitation of British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, on October 28, General Secretary To Lam and his wife Ngo Phuong Ly, along with a high-level Vietnamese delegation, departed from Hanoi for an official visit to the United Kingdom from October 28 to 30.
The official delegation included: Nguyen Duy Ngoc, Chairman of the Central Inspection Committee; Nguyen Trong Nghia, Head of the Central Propaganda and Mass Mobilization Department; Nguyen Hoa Binh, Permanent Deputy Prime Minister; Phan Van Giang, Minister of National Defense; Luong Tam Quang, Minister of Public Security; Le Hoai Trung, Minister of Foreign Affairs; Tran Luu Quang, Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee; and Pham Gia Tuc, Chief of the Central Party Office.
Minister of Ethnic Minorities and Religion Dao Ngoc Dung, Inspector General of the Government Doan Hong Phong, Minister of Finance Nguyen Van Thang, Minister of Science and Technology Nguyen Manh Hung, Minister of Education and Training Nguyen Kim Son, Governor of the State Bank of Vietnam Nguyen Thi Hong, Assistant to the General Secretary, Head of the General Secretary's Office, Mr. To An Xo, and Vietnamese Ambassador to the UK Do Minh Hung.
Vietnam and the United Kingdom established diplomatic relations on September 11, 1973. This made the UK one of the first Western countries to establish diplomatic relations with Vietnam.
Over the past half-century, the friendship and close ties between the people of the two countries have been continuously strengthened and developed.
General Secretary To Lam's official visit to the UK coincides with the 15th anniversary of the establishment of the Vietnam-UK Strategic Partnership (2010-2025), marking an important milestone for the two countries to reflect on their past cooperation, assess outstanding achievements, and set out a new vision and direction for the development of bilateral relations in the coming period.
