The movement to build a learning society in Can Tho City is developing strongly, especially through the replication of the models of "Learning Family", "Learning Clan" and "Learning Community" in the spirit of Decision 387/QD-TTg of the Prime Minister.

A typical example is the model of “Learning Community” in Thi Tu Vam Xang hamlet, Nhon Ai commune (formerly Nhon Nghia commune). Thanks to the active consultation and advocacy of the Learning Promotion Association, the locality has achieved positive results.

Of which, 100% of children are of school age, 280/295 households are recognized as "Learning Families", 2 "Learning Clans" (each clan has 5-7 families), and 3 "Learning Units".

Ms. Nguyen Thi Ngoc No, Party Cell Secretary, Head of the People's Committee of Thi Tu Vam Xang Hamlet, said that the study promotion work has been effectively implemented through regularly awarding scholarships, learning tools, and sponsoring preschool children.

The entire hamlet currently has 5 near-poor households, of which 2 have children in high school; there is the case of 2 disabled siblings who have overcome difficulties and studied well. At the opening ceremony of the new school year, the locality mobilized 2,000 notebooks to give to disadvantaged students and sponsored 1 preschool child.

According to Ms. Nguyen Thi Ngoc No, the work of encouraging learning, encouraging talents, and building a learning society contributes to improving people's knowledge, the quality of human resources, and people's lives. In the coming time, the locality will continue to coordinate with political organizations, unions, and mobilize benefactors to support students to overcome difficulties, determined not to let any drop out of school due to difficult circumstances.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Xuan Mai, former Chairwoman of the Association for Promotion of Education of Nhon Nghia Commune (old) said that wherever the Party Committee and government pay attention to the work of promoting education, promoting talents, and building a learning society, the movement will develop strongly.

Locally, many good models have been implemented such as “Piggy Bank”, “1+1, 1+n” (a philanthropist supports one student 200,000 VND per month, or supports many cases). In the past 6 years, the locality has supported 6 students. At the same time, the Association for Promotion of Education coordinated with the government to encourage families to register for “Learning Family”, “Learning Clan”...

Learning to know, to do, to live together and to develop oneself

The lifelong learning movement in Can Tho City has been further spread thanks to outstanding examples. A typical example is Mr. Nguyen Tan Thanh (89 years old, residing in Ninh Kieu Ward), who was commended by the City's Association for Promoting Education and awarded the "Adults Never Stop Learning" scholarship in 2024.

He is the oldest student to be admitted and study for a master's degree in Vietnamese Literature at Can Tho University (2024 - 2026). This honor carries a meaningful message that learning is a lifelong career, the path to knowledge has no end, regardless of age or circumstances.

Mr. Nguyen Tan Thanh was honored to receive the scholarship "Adults never stop learning".

To help students with difficult circumstances who are studious continue to go to school, localities in Can Tho City have promoted the building of a movement to encourage learning and talent, with many models suitable to the reality of the unit; thereby promoting effectiveness and spreading more and more.

Ngo Huynh Nhu (student of Nguyen Viet Hong High School), the child of a poor worker's family, was very moved when she received a scholarship worth 2.2 million VND, seeing it as a great encouragement to help her achieve the title of excellent student.

According to the Can Tho City Association for Promotion of Education, the movement has changed awareness from the mindset of "studying for exams" to "studying to know, do, live together and develop oneself".
