5 options for 2 connecting routes to Long Thanh Airport

According to the representative of the consulting unit, Southern Transport Design Consulting Joint Stock Company (TEDI SOUTH), the Ben Thanh - Suoi Tien Metro Line Extension Project to Tran Bien, Long Thanh Airport has a total length of about 38.5km, expected to include 3 sections: The route from station S0 to the new administrative center of Dong Nai province (Bien Hoa 1 Industrial Park) is about 6.5km; the route from the new administrative center of Dong Nai province to the central axis of Bien Hoa city (old) is about 5km and the route from the new administrative center of Dong Nai province to Long Thanh Airport is about 27km.

In particular, the route from station S0, Dong Hoa ward, Ho Chi Minh City to the new administrative center of Dong Nai province is expected to be implemented according to the elevated plan to reduce construction costs. With this route, there will be more than 1km running in Ho Chi Minh City.

For the route from the new administrative center of Dong Nai province to the central axis of Bien Hoa city (old), because it passes through a dense urban area, it is expected to be built underground.

For the route from the new administrative center of Dong Nai province to Long Thanh Airport, the starting point will be at station S2.4, the new administrative center of Dong Nai province and the end point will connect with the Thu Thiem - Long Thanh railway line, Long Thanh commune, Dong Nai province to go to Long Thanh Airport.

According to the consortium of investors, the Ben Thanh - Suoi Tien Metro Line Extension Project to Tran Bien and Long Thanh Airport has a total investment of about 65 trillion VND, not including site clearance costs. The site clearance work will be carried out by the State.

According to TEDI SOUTH representative, for this route, there are 2 sections being considered for investment proposals. In particular, for the section passing through the defense land area of ​​Brigade 972 (Department of Motorbikes - Transport, General Department of Logistics - Engineering, Long Hung Ward, Dong Nai Province), the consulting unit proposed 2 route options including: cutting across the military land (about 2km long and in accordance with the Project of Adjusting the General Planning of Bien Hoa City to 2045 being submitted for appraisal) and going around this land (with a route length of more than 4km).

For the final section of the route, because Long Thanh Airport does not have land to arrange additional corridors, to connect to Long Thanh Airport, the route is expected to connect to the Thu Thiem - Long Thanh railway outside the airport. For this section, the consulting unit proposed 3 proposed options including: option 1 - the route passes through the intersection of Highway 319, turns left and goes parallel to the left of the North - South high-speed railway. After crossing Highway 51, the route connects to station S17 of the Thu Thiem - Long Thanh railway (7.7km long); option 2 - after passing the intersection of Highway 319, turns left and goes parallel to the left of the North - South high-speed railway. Then, turn right, cross the high-speed railway, Provincial Road 769, go along Ba Ky canal and connect to station S16 of the Thu Thiem - Long Thanh railway (8.7km long); Option 3 - the route crosses the 319 intersection, goes straight across the North-South high-speed railway, follows the 319 axis, Tran Phu street, then connects to station S14 of the Thu Thiem - Long Thanh railway (11.6km long)

Prioritize the shortest route option

In the proposed options for the two sections of the new administrative center route from Dong Nai province to Long Thanh Airport, TEDI SOUTH representatives also proposed options. In particular, for the section passing through the national defense land area (Long Hung ward, Dong Nai province), the consulting unit recommended choosing the option of cutting across the land to reduce the length by more than 2km compared to the detour option.

"Because the route is elevated, it will not divide the land boundary, and the project's occupied corridor is only about 20m" - TEDI SOUTH representative analyzed.

For the final section of the route, the recommended option is option 2, because it is convenient to connect to the Thu Thiem - Long Thanh railway line and has low construction investment costs. Regarding the length of connection to Long Thanh Airport, option 2 is about 2.9km shorter than option 3 and only about 1km longer than option 1.

According to Deputy Director of the Department of Construction Duong Van Hieu, with the proposed plans of the consulting unit, the Department of Construction agrees with the shortest route plan for the project. Therefore, for the section passing through the military land belonging to the route connecting to Long Thanh Airport, the investor needs to coordinate with the Department of Construction to complete the document advising the Provincial People's Committee to work with the Ministry of National Defense.

On the side of the Provincial People's Committee, Provincial Party Committee member, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Ho Van Ha assigned the Department of Construction to coordinate with the consortium of investors and consulting units to study and handle issues related to defense land and planning, if any. At the same time, the Provincial People's Committee will also have a document registering to work with the Ministry of Defense on the project route.
