(Dan Tri Newspaper) - Nguyen Khoa Dieu Khanh's outstanding performance helped the Vietnamese table tennis team win the prestigious gold medal in the women's singles event at the 2024 Southeast Asian Table Tennis Championships held in Thailand.
The 2024 Southeast Asian Table Tennis Championships, held in Bangkok, Thailand, concluded on the afternoon of November 24th after nearly a week of exciting and dramatic competition. This tournament brought together all the strong table tennis teams in Southeast Asia, including Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, and Vietnam, competing in seven events: men's team, women's team, men's doubles, women's doubles, men's singles, and women's singles. Notably, in the men's and women's team events, the Vietnamese table tennis team performed poorly, being eliminated early in the group stage. However, in the subsequent events, the Vietnamese team performed brilliantly, even reaching the finals in four events to compete for the gold medal: men's doubles, women's doubles, men's singles, and women's singles. All four events took place on November 24th, and the Vietnamese table tennis team and fans were hoping for a "shower of gold" for coach Doan Kien Quoc's team. However, in those four events, only Nguyen Khoa Dieu Khanh excelled, winning a gold medal for the Vietnamese team by defeating Tel Ai Xin (Singapore) in the final with a score of 4-0. This was also the only gold medal won by the Vietnamese table tennis team at the 2024 Southeast Asian Table Tennis Championships. In the remaining finals, the pair Mai Hoang My Trang and Nguyen Thi Nga lost to the Malaysian pair and only won a silver medal in the women's doubles event. A similar situation occurred when the pair Nguyen Duc Tuan and Doan Ba Tuan Anh also lost to the Malaysian pair in the men's doubles final. The Malaysian table tennis team proved to be a nemesis for Vietnam, as in the men's singles final, Vietnam's number one player, Nguyen Anh Tu, also narrowly lost to Malaysian player Choang Javen with a score of 3-4. In the end, at the 2024 Southeast Asian Table Tennis Championships, the Vietnamese team still achieved its target by winning 1 gold, 3 silver, and 2 bronze medals. This serves as motivation for the Vietnamese table tennis team to continue striving for more high achievements at the upcoming SEA Games 2025.
