The recent rice export achievements have a very important role of rice traders and exporters.

Recently, the domestic rice export situation has improved a lot. In the first 7 months of 2023, the whole country exported 4.83 million tons, with about 2.67 million tons left for export in the remaining 5 months of 2023.

In particular, rice export prices have been increasing continuously. According to a report by the Vietnam Food Association (VFA), Vietnam's export price for 5% broken rice on August 17 increased by 5 USD/ton compared to the previous day, to 628-632 USD/ton. The price of 25% broken rice also jumped from 603-607 USD/ton to 608-612 USD/ton.

Meanwhile, for Thailand, after decreasing by 28 USD/ton on August 16 compared to August 10 for both 5% and 25% broken rice, the price on August 17 compared to the previous day continued to decrease by 10 USD/ton for 5% broken rice and 7 USD/ton for 25% broken rice.

Thus, the price of 5% broken rice in Thailand on August 17 was only 613-617 USD/ton, while the price of 25% broken rice was 561-565 USD/ton.

With the new price level established on August 17, Vietnam's 5% broken rice is 15 USD/ton higher than Thailand's and 25% broken rice is 47 USD/ton higher.

The recent achievements in rice export have resulted from the great efforts and contributions of the rice export business community.

To create the most favorable conditions for rice export activities, the Ministry of Industry and Trade is urgently seeking opinions to amend and supplement Decree No. 107/2018/ND-CP of the Government on rice export business.

In addition, Mr. Tran Quoc Toan - Deputy Director of the Import-Export Department - Ministry of Industry and Trade informed that in order to continue implementing the tasks assigned in Official Dispatch No. 610/CD-TTg and Directive No. 24/CT-TTg of the Prime Minister on ensuring national food security and promoting sustainable rice production and export in the current period, the Minister of Industry and Trade issued Directive No. 07/CT-BCT dated August 15, 2023 on strengthening market information, trade promotion, developing rice export markets and stabilizing the domestic market in the current period.

Accordingly, tasks are assigned to functional units under the Ministry of Industry and Trade, local Departments of Industry and Trade, Vietnam Food Association and traders to focus on implementing groups of solutions.

Specifically, regarding institutional improvement, urgently review and complete the Decree amending and supplementing Decree No. 107/2018/ND-CP of the Government on rice export business to complete the legal corridor for the rice export mechanism, creating a transparent, fair and favorable business environment for rice exporters.

Regarding market research, information and development, continue to closely monitor the world rice trade market situation, the movements of major producing and exporting countries and promptly inform ministries, branches, Vietnam Food Association, and rice export traders to proactively regulate rice production, business and export activities, ensuring suitability and efficiency.

At the same time, preside over and coordinate with relevant agencies to implement programs, trade activities, product promotion, rice trade promotion in line with the new situation to increase the value of Vietnamese rice products. Coordinate with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development to exploit the preferential mechanisms of the FTAs ​​of which our country is a member to proactively negotiate with partners to diversify export markets, capture new and potential markets and enhance the competitiveness of the Vietnamese rice industry.
